THis is great, I am from the Philip Nicolas line and i have not been able to get anything on his twin either. Its interesting that all the info seem to lead to this first John but i don't think he could have come from England, the family legend is that he came over from Germany to cast the lions in trafalgar but that cant be true either and i have not found any evidence yet.

if you got that marriage certificate there is a chance it would state father John's occupation

Charles is shown in 1841 in St Giles in the Fiels as a Brass Founder, but unfortunately is not living with any family

Philip 1808 is also in the 1841 census as a Brass Founder, aged 25, with wife Elizabeth ... so I don't think the second Philip referred to in that narrative is a son of the same couple, since the first did not die ... Philip has a son aged 7 so I think the younger Philip is grandson of John and Mary (I think something posted by AnnCardiff may have shown that)


I wonder whether it's interesting that in 1841 Philip is at the same address as a James Merrick and family ... probably just a coincidence of names, I guess.


since John married in England in 1807, he was in England long before the lions were a gleam in their creators' eye :-)
