Just checked for a couple of family members deaths, and they aren't there. Its not a complete index by any means.

That's news I hadn't seen that. But it doesn't seem to be complete

Wonder how they got the info as the gro said they weren't releasing it

Gee Report 22 Jan 2015 13:28

Some deaths just have a post code and no page/volume reference

I guess they are not fully transcribed yet

Took a look for an aunt who died in Cornwall about 2007/ 8 aged 102 but she doesn't show

Dea Report 22 Jan 2015 15:41

My one showed in 2012 so I guess it is just 'hit and miss' at the moment but at least a step forward.

I think the hit and miss of these records indicates they are not obtained from the GRO.

probably from Famikysearch and other sources

And where/how would Familysearch obtain the records?

Treat with caution!!!

My mother died on 27/12/2012

Her date of birth was 02/07/1925

Her name was Joan - no middle name

I was the informant

SOMEHOW they have transcribed her as Ms Joan Cerys...spookily Cerys is my daughter's name - but there is absolutely nothing on the death certificate that would suggest this info!!!!!

The only way they have linked my mum and my daughter is by the announcement in the local paper!

GlasgowLass Report 23 Jan 2015 20:51

I was looking at some of the Scottish ones.
They have definitely been taken from Obituaries and Findagrave and are linked as such.

I'm with you HeyJudeB4Beatles, treat with care and caution.

Don';t you hate those who seek to dominate. Guess you would have to be a paying member to get full details.

Familysearch could be using the newly released probate reocrds!

JoonieCloonie Report 24 Jan 2015 19:04

I had seen this thread and had a sudden need for the new index :-)

first I had to hunt up the thread, and then go hunting for the index

for easy reference, it is here

http://search.ancestry.co.uk/search/db.aspx?dbid=60630

... unfortunately the one I was looking for was not there ... but this could mean she is living still, perhaps in a nursing home ...

HeyJudeB4Beatles

HeyJudeB4Beatles Report 24 Jan 2015 19:08

We didn't have to obtain probate when my mum died because the house was in my dad's name and the bank accounts were joint and the estate was below the limit.

The announcement in the local paper gave the date of her death and my dad's name and the first names of me, my husband and daughters. Somebody would have had to do a bit of detective work to get back to her date of birth....so not really getting it!
