Harold was born in Blackrod Lancashire UK in 1827.He emigrated to the USA in 1851and was naturalised in 1860.He married Theresa Y Yates from the UK.They had a son James M Mathews b.1852 and d 1910 in Charlestone W Va.Does anyone have any information on his family from there on? I am aware that Harold fought in the civil war and died in Pa in 1869

James M Mathews married a Bessie B Thompson- confirmed by the death record of their son Robert in 1932 (details re familysearch)

Message from George:

"Hello Helen,2 years ago my 95 years old uncle passed away. He had given me a book of the works of Virgil.A name at the front was written.George Jebb Mathews of Blackrod given by him to Mary Ann Mathews of Blackrod.I couldn't find any family connection but my uncle was born near Blackrod.George's parents fr Liverpool are buried at Blackrod with one George' children.The book is dated 1811 and I found out George was a well educated teacher in the local schools but he died age 42 in 1834.The book will be of interest to his family if I find them."

So I think George is looking for Descendants of George Jebb Mathews so he can show them the book he has.

Unfortunately I can only see the two children to George Jebb , and Thomas Quill died at age 6, so it will need to be the descendants of Harold,

Hold on Rose- another note from George, he forgot to mention:

"I have found the family history up to the time Harold emigrated.He also had a brother Roderic Malcolm Chalmers Mathews b.1833 At the age of 12 he was in Court for theft.I can find no record of him and wonder if he went with his brother to USA."

So there is another brother Roderic Malcolm - which ties in with the name of James' son.

On the 1930 US census Robert is a printing officer and is living in Charleston with his wife who is listed as Edith C (not W as on his death record). They married c 1920 and have no children living with them.
