Dear Friends

I've been trying to find information relating my 2x great uncle. I've tracked him in the 1861, 1871, 1881, 1891, 1901 and 1911 census information but wondered if anybody could possibly help me finding out what happened to him in later years. I would like to find out when Frank and also his wife Ellen died.

Frank Sutton was born c.1861 in Wiltshire and migrated northwards with his parents and siblings to Lincolnshire and by 1911 I've found he was living 110 Winter Hey Lane Horwich, Horwich, Lancashire and was a Fruiterer.

He was married to Ellen and as far as we know he had 6 children. I would dearly like to find out more about him and his family and if his children ever married. I've tried to search for more information on the family but so far with no success.

Frank and Ellen's children's names and births were as follows:-

Ellen b.1889
Emily b.1891
Lily b.1897
Frank b.1899
May b.1906
Frederick b.1908

It would be wonderful to find that I may well have Sutton families in Lancashire as nobody ever told me about this line in my family until I personally started trying to track them down.

Thank you in anticipation of any help there might be in my search for a lost family.

Kind regards
David

Did any of the children have middle names to help with search for possible marriages?

AnnC's posting of Jane E Sutton is a red herring ............................ she is living in Horwich but is NOT a child of Frank and Ellen

Jane Ellen Sutton is child of Thomas and Margaret Sutton

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 28 Jul 2014 05:30

possible marriage for Frank Sutton and Ellen .................

you need to buy a birth certificate for one of the children to be absolutely certain of Ellen's maiden name

Sutton Frank Grantham 7a 930
TUNBRIDGE Ellen Grantham 7a 930

it is difficult to find out when Frank and Ellen died .................... the names are pretty common!

and we do not know that they stayed in Horwich for the rest of their lives.

you may have to buy a marriage certificate for one or more of the children to see if Frank is shown as alive or deceased ........... although even that is not always accurate!

Dear Friends

Firstly may I say a very big thank you for all the help you've provided, this seems to be the same information that I found too but hope that something else may come to light at some stage.

I think that you're right in saying about a marriage certificate for one of the children, I will try to find which might be the best one to send for. I'll look on FreeBMD to see if there are any marriages near to Horwich that might lead me to this family.

I have known of the link with the Wiltshire Sutton's and the Hathway's as I found these way back in 2003 when I first started my family history research. My great grandfather was born in Brinkworth and this was the very starting point for me.

My ancestors were farmers down in Wiltshire and it seems as though they left their county of origin in the early 1870's. I'm told that farming trends took a turn for the worse at that time and they migrated northwards in search of work.

Frank Sutton originally moved to Lincolnshire with his parents and siblings and they each made their way to various parts of the country. Frank ran a pub (The Lincoln Tavern) in King's Lynn and my great grandfather (Rowland Tom Sutton) held licences for the The Woolpack. Tennyson Avenue, King's Lynn 30.06.1984, the Lord Nelson. Austin St in King's Lynn 13.10.1884 and eventually holding the licence for the Carpenters Arms, East Winch near King's Lynn from 1896 - 1912 with Sophie (my great grandmother). Most of their children were born at East Winch apart from a couple who were born in King's Lynn.

Anybody interested in any of Roland Tom Sutton's history, this can be seen on the link below.

Thank you soooo much again to each and every one of you for your fantastic help you've given, I am really grateful for the information provided.

With all kind wishes
David

Hello Joseph

Thanks for your help with these marriages. I think I'll send for one of those and see what it comes up with.

You've been very kind and I'll update the board once I get this through.

Take care
