I am looking at a distant branch of my tree and I have come across the Waterworth family in Leigh Lancashire. On the 1901 census dad James and mum Elizabeth have a whole fleet of kids with amazing names but some are incorrect i.e. Nerse is actually Verse, Pertaslin has a variety of changes especially during WW1 as does Bazhylm. I am looking at a child who is transcribed as VIGRIA WATERWORTH, but I am not sure ……. it could be something else and I cannot find a Vigria on the BMD site. Can anyone please help work out what the name is???? |

On the 1901 census the child who is transcribed as Vigria who is 1 year old is on the 1911 census as Dinah (the image is definitely written as Dinah). |

oh, thank you - how confusing is all of that??!!! Some of their names are biblical - like Napthali -but I could never imagine why they would call one something that sounded like 'earache - us' !! I had seen the name Denira, and must confess I did wonder. I presume McDonald/McDonnell is the mother's maiden name? I had not got so far as to look at her. |

The 1911 census says that James and Elizabeth have had 12 children - 9 living and 3 have died. |

my goodness you two are on the ball!! Thank you. I have actually just found that marriage - and she came from Ireland originally. How sad to lose 3 children. But to raise 9 …….. I would have dementia very early on!! |

On the 1911 census it says Elizabeth was from Glasgow - not Ireland although the 1901 census says Ireland. However the 1911 census was written by James himself and not the enumerator so you would think he would get it right. |
