Yes - I'm glad they are not my family - I couldn't cope with all the strange names, lol.

Mind you I have enjoyed looking for them. This is the most I've done on this site for ages. The boards seem very slow these days with very few look ups to do. Nothing like years ago when the boards were oh so busy and fast moving.

Have to go to bed now. Good night and good luck with this family!!

Eunice

Eunice Report 7 Feb 2014 00:34

lol snap again Kath!!!! I am glad they are a distant branch - they are too confusing!!!

Eunice

Eunice Report 7 Feb 2014 00:33

and now I have checked the 1911 census and she now climbs to be from Scotland??!! Yet earlier census and marriage say Ireland!!! How to confuse us!!!

KathleenBell

KathleenBell Report 7 Feb 2014 00:31

On the 1911 census it says Elizabeth was from Glasgow - not Ireland although the 1901 census says Ireland. However the 1911 census was written by James himself and not the enumerator so you would think he would get it right.

my goodness you two are on the ball!! Thank you. I have actually just found that marriage - and she came from Ireland originally. How sad to lose 3 children. But to raise 9 …….. I would have dementia very early on!!
Thanks again for your help x

oh, thank you - how confusing is all of that??!!! Some of their names are biblical - like Napthali -but I could never imagine why they would call one something that sounded like 'earache - us' !! I had seen the name Denira, and must confess I did wonder. I presume McDonald/McDonnell is the mother's maiden name? I had not got so far as to look at her.
Thank you all so much for help and suggestions :-D <3

KathleenBell Report 7 Feb 2014 00:02

On the 1901 census the child who is transcribed as Vigria who is 1 year old is on the 1911 census as Dinah (the image is definitely written as Dinah).

The child who is transcribed as Earachaus on the 1901 census is on the 1911 census as Caractacus.
