The Hammersmith marriage cert would help, it may be confirmation that 1911 census Edwin is the same Edwin James Lewis born 1893 to Edwin and Sarah

We need Simon's and his aunt's view on this to see if it rings any bells

I agree Roy. Especially if the groom's occupation happened to be bus conductor or the soldier from 1911.

Would the death certs have the former occupation of the deceased?

An ideal miracle would be to find the informant on one of the death certs was Hilda F A Kirkham, but to spend the £6 looking for a probate grant for the same man's estate, and finding there was one, and that administration went to one of the siblings of Edwin James Lewis the tram conductor's son, Albert J, Caroline Mary, or, given Edwin and Sarah had lost 4 out of their 10 children according to the 1911, youngest daurs Winnfred Annie or Florence Annie from census 1911.

Hi folks,

First of all, wow! Thank you so much for all your responses and hard work on our problem. This is all really appreciated.

I admit I like the idea of him following his father onto the buses. I shall pass all this information on to my aunt and see where she would like to go next and let you all know the outcome.

Once again, many thanks.

i now have a death certificate. no date of birth just 75 years old. he died in hospital so informant was an occupier! and his job description was retired school porter, which could still tie in as my mum said he was a handyman in a convent school in hammersmith. :-S so still no real answers.
