Does anybody out there know if there are plans for Scotland to let us see their 1911 census. Either on here on on Ancestry? :-(

In particular I want to see the 1911 whereabouts of Agnes Carney born c 1892 and living in Ayrshire with father Alexander and Mother May. I have seen the 1901 census which says that Agnes was born in England. Did Scotland actually allow a weekend of being able to see their 1911 census maybe to mark the royal diamond jubilee or some other royal celebration?

Hi Jennifer, Have you misread the 1901 return?
The 1901 census for the family is in Inch ,Wigtownshire This return states that Agnes was born in Ayrshire Dunaskir is a mis transcription but a check on Scotlands People has a corresponding birth registered in Dalmellington, Ayrshire
Scotlands People is the only site where the Scottish 1911 census is available
1901 Scotland Census about Agnes Carney Name: Agnes Carney Age: 9 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1892 Relationship: Daur (Daughter) Father's Name: Alexander Carney Mother's Name: May Carney Gender: Female Where born: dunaskir, Ayrshire** Registration number: 886 Registration District: Inch** Civil Parish: Inch County: Wigtownshire*** Address: Mahaar Cottage No 1 Occupation: Scholar ED: 8 Household Schedule Number: 29 Line: 7 Roll: CSSCT1901_441 Household Members: Name Age Alexander Carney 52 ( place of birth: Leswalt, Wigtownshire) May Carney 50 (place of birth: Newton Stewart, Wigtownshire) Mariann Carney 25 Frances Carney 22 Janet Carney 20 Katherine Carney 16 Agnes Carney 9 Allan Carney 14 Hugh Carrey 75
By searching the 1911 census on SP for matches:
Agnes Cairney age 19 Inch, Wigtownshire Other people in the household include names of: Alexander and Marion. ( an Ancestry member has annotated the 1901 return to say that the mother May Carney, is.... Marion May Wilson

Thanks Glasgow Lass and Happy New Year. That 1911 census on SP does not mention Dalmellington then? Are there any occupations for Agnes and her parents please? Are all the siblings still living with the parents? My Agnes is actually Agnes Newlands Carney and she came to England some time before 1926 when she married a Victor Wright in Southampton. Maybe there was another birth in a different part of Scotland. Thanks again for your help. Scotlands People transcriptions would help us sassenacks! regards, jennifer

Jennifer - If you register with SP and buy only £7-worth of credits, you can have a look at the 1911 census yourself.
Re Agnes's birth: There is no birth record on SP for an Agnes Newlands Carney (or variation), nor for an Agnes N Carney or variation, 1885-1900. There are 102 Agnes Carney's born in the whole of Scotland in that period. 11 of them were born in Ayrshire (below). If any of these look likely (presumably one of the two Dalmellington births) you can view the original record on SP. Then you would see the parents' names, to verify. Your £7 would provide enough credits for that as well as looking at the 1911 census:
1 1887 CAIRNEY AGNES F KILMARNOCK (AYR) /AYR 597/00 0462 2 1885 CAIRNS AGNES F LOUDOUN /AYR 603/00 0124 3 1888 CAIRNS AGNES F DALRY (AYR) /AYR 587/00 0054 4 1889 CAIRNS AGNES F STEVENSTON /AYR 615/00 0151 5 1893 CAIRNS AGNES F KILBIRNIE /AYR 596/00 0098 6 1892 CAIRNS AGNES EVELINE F KILWINNING /AYR 599/00 0125 7 1895 CAIRNS AGNES JACKSON F KILMARNOCK (AYR) /AYR 597/00 0408 8 1893 CAIRNS AGNES MORRISON F KILWINNING /AYR 599/00 0256 9 1891 CARNEY AGNES F DALMELLINGTON /AYR 586/00 0164 10 1892 CARNEY AGNES F DALMELLINGTON /AYR 586/00 0055 11 1898 CARTNEY AGNES F KILMARNOCK (AYR) /AYR 597/00 0430

Dunaskir is a mistranscription of Dunaskin, which is near the village of Dalmellington.
"In 1848 the Dalmellington Iron Co opened a large ironworks at Dunaskin near Dalmellington. The works flourished into the twentieth century, but by 1921 had become obsolete and was closed during a strike. The furnaces were demolished and in 1928 a brickworks was established on the site with the 1847 blowing enginehouse converted for brickmaking machinery. The clay was drawn from seams found in the local coal mines. Brickmaking continued until 1976 when demand was so low that 2.5 million bricks were stockpiled on site and production ceased." http://www.theviewfromthenorth.org/dunaskin-brickworks

Jennifer - The mention of Inch in the 1911 census, posted by GlasgowLass, is just where the family were living - it doesn't mean that's where Agnes was born.

Thanks for all that information ArgyllGran. I shall proceed once I have corresponded with descendants of Agnes in Melbourne Australia as they may know names of Agnes's siblings which would nail it down better - and then SP here I come. Happy New Year CheshireGran - aka Jennifer
