Can anyone help me decipher a word in the Parish Records Collection on FMP.
I'm looking at a marriage between James Gosling and Elizabeth Harvey in February 1798 in Newton Ferrors, Devon. The word I can't read follows James' name.

I believe his name is THOMAS Gosling from the transcription. However I don't know how to access the original.

Margee you must be looking at a different one because I have a copy of the banns and it definitely says James.

Dea Report 15 Nov 2013 19:36

It is 1797 - He is down as James GOSLIN and the word after his name indicated his occupation which says 'Milor' - perhaps this means 'Miller' ?

It looks like milor, but it's written directly above the word spinster after Elizabeth's name so should it be his status? Sorry can't be any more help.

I thought it should be his status too but couldn't figure out what it could be. The ones on the rest of the page say husbandman against the man's name.

Thanks.

'Husbandman' IS an occupation!

Husband-Man / Husbandman 1) Tenant farmer 2) Farmer dealing with animals (14th century From the Anglo-Saxon husbonda) - a shepherd

It isn't usually a good idea to post your own request on another person's thread................starting one of your own is better.

Please remember to give dates and place names, to eliminate guesswork

However..................
