On the 1911 census it shows my great grandmother having given birth 4 times but only three living I know a son died in 1904 aged one year and another son who is not down on the census but I know he was in Leavesden Mental Asylum after trying to hurt another brother in 1916/17.
Walter Stanley who is on the 1911 census was my grandfather and Grace Florence my great aunt.
We believe he died at the asylum as a young man.
Can anybody help me find his name and what may of happened to him and what census he was on .

Per FreeBMD, the only Arthur Brundle born in 1910 was this one:

Births Jun 1910 (>99%)
BRUNDLE Arthur Middlesbro 9d 596

Doesn't seem likely, if Grace was born 1909 in London, and the family were in Cricklewood in 1911.

Perhaps the age at death in 1923 was transcribed wrongly onto the GRO index.
OP suggests he died as a young man. If born in 1904, he'd have been 19.

I am overwhelmed with everyones input thank you all so much.I have found it quite difficult to trace as I cant understand why he doesn't show on the 1911 census although we believe him to be in the Leavesden asylum Abbots Langley Watford due to him trying to put his youngest brother George born 1916 through a mangle!!! I have been to the site of the hospital which is now apartments and attended a talk and walk through the grounds but unfortunately most of the records are no longer available.
Again thank you all and I will purchase the death cert as suggested

patchem

patchem Report 22 Sep 2013 10:29

There is the possibility that he is an inmate in 1911 and is showing under his initials, or partial initials if badly transcribed.
Comes out of hospital but then re-admitted in 1917

Well, he wasn't in Leavesden in 1911 - I've scrolled through the many pages of the image on Ancestry, and he's not there.

Here's a random patient whose details will let you find the record on Ancestry (include X as birthplace) in case you want to check the image yourself:

PM received from Frances, copied here with her permission:

Just to let you know that with your help I sent away for the birth cert and confirmed the parents were correct then only this week end I received the death cert also confirming that I had found my grandfathers older brother who did die in Leavesden mental asylum aged18 years.I am still going up to the London Metropolitan Archives in London to confirm when he entered the asylum and hopefully see why he wasn't on the 1911 census.Prior to him being admitted to the hospital he was a resident at Woburn Lodge Upper Woburn Place in London which it seems was also some type of home. Again many thanks for your help Frances
