Hi,

I think I have found the death of Elizabeth in 1878 and hoped that if I bought the cert,I would get her maiden name.
It seems that maiden names weren't added until the 1960's unfortunately.

Could someone help me out please.

All of the information I have is from the 1871 census of England on Ancestry

So I have information for the children of Elizabeth and Richard but nothing for themselves.

Any advice on how/where to look for information on the couple would be great. Also would be a great help if some one else with a fresh perspective could take a look as I'm just going round in circles!

Thanks to any one taking the time to help me out

To summarise

Elizabeth Humphreys ????????? is reputed to have married a Richard Good at some stage

Have you looked for a marriage?

https://familysearch.org/

Were any of the children single in 1841?

Hi Reggie,

I suppose it would be in the correct area as her son Thomas lived there. I'll have a look and see if Welshpool is near Shrewsbury.

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 10 Sep 2013 12:47

It is....................

Blue1 Report 10 Sep 2013 12:52

Hi Reggie,
Thank you

It seems Welshpool is only about 18 miles from Shrewsbury. If it's her I wonder why she didn't say Welshpool as in the 1871?

I'll have a look at the census to see if it gives any other info

It did occur to me to look for parents with child in the 1841 and
Sophia Matilda Good didn't marry until 1842,but I have had no luck as yet with her on the 1841 either

So,

Reggie may have found her in the 1851 living in the same area of London as her son Thomas. The only info on it is her name age status (W) and independent plus place of birth Shrewsbury and not Welshpool!

But she is still not with her husband Richard. I have had no luck at all finding a marriage for the couple either in England or Wales

I just can't work out how to find her marriage if there is one to Richard Good,so no nearer a maiden name.

Thanks for the burial Reggie.

I've had a look at the last child born in 1827 and hoped it would say Clerkenwell. No such luck though, birth place was Peckham. His Sarah married her widowed brother in law in 1833 but parish of Newington

See what I mean about this family,it's impossible

Elizabeth probably born somewhere between Welshpool and Shrewsbury, so whichever came into her head when asked or
Welshpool might not have been familiar to people from out of the area, whereas they may have heard of Shrewsbury.
If her husband was a Baker perhaps he was busy baking overnight and so not with the family at census time.

ErikaH Report 10 Sep 2013 13:10

From your other thread..............

I do have marriages for the children and the father is alive up until 1851 at least, but not found on the census.

Blue1

Blue1 Report 10 Sep 2013 13:14

Hi Stuart

that sounds reasonable re the couple together as they are both described as Baker's. Maybe neither were about during the census.

I don't know,no marriage birth or death for either of them,no census together or with any of the children prior to 1871.

So this does look like a dead end as far a Elizabeth's maiden name is concerned and info for Richard

Thanks to Reggie and your self for taking the time

Well saying that Reggie!

What I meant was they don't say deceased! I'll check through and see which ones say dead or alive

From the 1871 census you posted

[Elizabeth Humphreys Good]

Age: 91
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1780

Relation: Mother-in-law
Gender: Female
Where born: Welshpool; Moggerhanger, Wales
[Welshpool; Montgomeryshire, Wales]

Have you considered that her middle name (Humphreys) could have 2 or more meanings, 1, she was illegitimate and Humphreys is her fathers surname or 2, she kept her maiden name after marriage, My wife has kept her maiden name as a middle name and it is included in the names of our children.

Their are several Elizabeth Humphreys baptisms listed 1780 +/- 5 years in the Welshpool Montgomeryshire area
