I am trying, unsuccessfully so far, to find a marriage record for Alice Amos, who married (William, possibly) Perkins in Oxfordshire/North Hants/Bucks etc between 1795 and 1810 approximately. Death certificate for their son George Perkins (d.1887 in NZ) states mother's maiden name as Alice Amos, but doesn't record his father's name. George was christened in Bloxham, Ox, and lived and apparently married in Milcombe (just down the road SW of Banbury), to Sarah Eden around 1846 (I also don't have an exact date for that marriage if anyone can help there).

I have found a possible birth in Silverstone, North Hants, but can't establish a link to the Perkins name. If anyone can help that would be most appreciated.

Cheers, Fraser

The marriage is easily found on FreeBMD in 1846 and using those details you can order the cert

Cheers, not so concerned about that one, as about the Amos connection, as it has been a dead-end for some time, but having confirmed George's mother's maiden name, I'd like to pursue that

Who is named as the father on the christening record ?

Also that of Frederick and William as per the 1841 census

Andrew

Andrew Report 5 Sep 2013 01:23

Oops, crossed posts there - thanks for that Glitterbaby, I wonder what the charge was?

Andrew

Andrew Report 5 Sep 2013 01:26

I got the christening record on Family Search, and it shows father as William Perkins, and mother just as Alice - the death cert gave Amos as her surname, but not father's first name

Looking at the 1841 census it shows Alice as not born in county

Andrew

Andrew Report 5 Sep 2013 01:41

That would fit if she was born in Northamptonshire, does it show the rest of the family?

Thanks for that, it's a different birth than I had found - Family Search also show a Sarah, b.1809, George, b.1818, and William b.1821 - does that fit with the 1841 census record you mentioned?

On the 1861 census for Alice Perkins there is a daughter Hannah

Have you found her in 1841 just in case the father was still alive

Think she is on 1851 as Rickens but terrible image

Unfortunately I am not a member of Ancestry.com as I can't afford it, although I do have a tree on Mundia, but can't find much to confirm the details I am seeking, hence my request for help on GR,through the good graces of people like yourself.

Are William and Daniel the same person - if not then his baptisms needs to be checked or find him on 1841 census

Andrew Report 5 Sep 2013 02:10

I did come across a tree which named the father as Richard, and which had a William and a Daniel born 1820 - I wondered if they could have been twins? I wasn't sure about the father's name, but maybe it could be a candidate, I just looked at my notes from that tree and it showed Alice born Chipping Warden too

In the 1841 census the enumerators were told to round the ages down for any one over the age of 15

So when you see 2 or even 3 or 4 members of the same family being the same age on that census like the one above they could be anything from 20 to 24 not actually twins....they could be of course but the survival rate wasn't very good back then so in most cases unlikely

Andrew

Andrew Report 5 Sep 2013 02:54

Thanks Jax, I was aware of that, it's just that if this is the family, then George born 1818, two brothers around 1820 and then another in 1821 - doesn't leave much time between them does it? ;)

jax Report 5 Sep 2013 03:45

No it doesn't, but that wasn't that unusual....I have a fair number of twins in my tree, sadly most died as babies but I do have one set born 1832 that survived to adulthood so they could be twins....you just need to find baptisms for them
