If anybody is still looking at this thread I have just found, in Family Search :-

Alexander Burrow
Son

England and Wales Census, 1851
birth: Leeds, Yorkshire
census: 1851 England

If he is still at home in '51 does the census give the full SP on his father (Thomas?) please.

Many thanks,
Frances

Thank you all for your input and with spending time to ponder over all the input there are clearly two families with an overlap of 'same names' but the one including Herbert is mine - thank goodness you have sorted that for me.

I presume you have looked for Kate as Catherine or Katherine

Off now until much later tonight so will leave you to work out which way your head if facing :-D

Yes Maureen, that's the Herbert I am following but are there two Kate Burrow as I can only find the one marriage - I am starting to wonder if my head is facing the right way....?

Strange if the 1891 is the same family as different occupation

Frances

Frances Report 4 Aug 2013 16:06

There is a post up near the top which says work backwards from the known .....

My point of known is

Marriages Sep 1913
Burrow Herbert Burnley Bramley
9b 660

Burnley Mary A Burrow Bramley
9b 660

The 1911 for a Herbert Burrow is

1911 Census
BURROW KATE F 1867 44 Bramley Yorkshire West Riding
BURROW JAMES WILLIAM M 1887 24 Bramley Yorkshire West Riding
BURROW ALICE F 1890 21 Bramley Yorkshire West Riding
BURROW HERBERT M 1892 19 Bramley Yorkshire West Riding
BURROW ARTHUR M 1895 16 Bramley Yorkshire West Riding
BURROW ELIZA F 1897 14 Bramley Yorkshire West Riding

but James William's age has already strayed from a potential year of 1886 to 1887 not that significant really and he still has a mother Kate as in 1891.

If Kate hadn't become a widow it would all be a lot simpler.....

Thanks Mike this is a real puzzle. William seems to be two people at once! I have him in the 1891 cencus with an age that looks like 37 and he is a coal miner, birth place Wortley ( there is one in Leeds). He has 3 children with Kate aged 27, who becomes a widow by 1901 and is then 44. It is not that unusual for ancestors to change their info but this one is really stretching it towards incredulity!

There is a correction made on the 1861 I posted at the beginning
'
......
Andrew Burrow
[Alexander Burrow]
Alexander Burrow rather than Andrew Burrow
The original data on the record is incorrect.

The 1861 posted by Mike has been altered on Ancestry to show father as Alexander and not Andrew

If the father is Alexander then other children could be

Elizabeth 1866

Margaret Elizabeth 1860

Eliza 1861

Thomas 1864

Thanks Mike but I don't think they would be so far out on his age - by 1861 I would expect him to be 6
