MM,

Thank you so much, I haven't any information up to now on Charles's family.

Could I ask how you came to find this information?

I am a complete novice for any genealogy abroad, and Canada seems very hard to research.

I did have the worldwide subs for Ancestry, but still couldn't find anything on this family and another Canadian family so I stopped the sub.

Thanks again Angi x

There's a tree on Ancestry that has this family although Nora's surname is spelled Murghner. It shows one child Gordon William Sheik born Ottawa, Ontario and died Dorval, Quebec but no dates given.

MargaretM Report 4 Jun 2010 14:00

There's a newspaper article here describing the wedding of Gordon Sheik, son of Nora and the late Charles to Doris Jean Miller. (Montreal Gazette 9 July 1964) There's also a photo of the couple.

http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1946&dat=19640709&id=X5otAAAAIBAJ&sjid=iZ4FAAAAIBAJ&pg=5598,1509700

Or just google "Gordon Sheik" Montreal.

MM,

I have contacted the tree's owner, so I will await a reply - hopefully.

Amazing,

I have googled Norah and Charles and found an article posted by someone detailing German immigration to Canada, naming Wilhelmina and Frederick, so I have also emailed the contact information - so hopefully I will get a response.

Thank you so much for all your help.

Greetings Angela, Margee, & Thelma
Through some searching on the internet, I stumbled across this discussion.
Through other sources, I managed to contact Angela and passed on to her information on Scheik. Norah (Nora) Mernagh married Charles Scheik 1911. Their children were Kathleen, Gladys, Marion, Charles W., & Gordon. The name was changed to Sheik (date & exact reason not known). My source: Norah & Charles were my grand-parents, Charles W. was my father.

This is a prime example of how hard it can be to trace family members. The Schuck, Schick, Scheitts, & Scheik are all the same people/family. I believe by what family members have told me that Scheik is most likely the name. Looking at the .pdf files attached the Schuck is IMHO Scheick which is another spelling that I have seen before. Also in some of the censuses, there is a Wilhelmina Kalf or Colf following the others. She is Charlotte's mother.

Hello All,
I just re-visited these posts...sometimes you might just find something else that was missed the first time around.
Angela & Thelma - 1901 English Census - Nora Mernagh absent
Yes, she was indeed absent and I found her...she was attending school at Singleton School, Mespil Road, Dublin. The story goes that a sister (unspecified) in their family paid for her to go to school there. I don't know how much truth there is to this but I found the census record on Ancestry with a 13 year old Nora Mernagh in attendance at the school.

Enjoy.
Randy
