I am not tied to this thread, I am just one of many who try to help on these boards.

As it happens it was one I helped on 3 years ago, so it flagged up in my threads when you replied on it.

I also have family in Southend plus I live there myself but am not related, I'm affraid

Thank you. I did remove my email from the post. How are you tied to thread? I did email Kerry through this board. I'm really fascinated by finding this thread. I only know of my grandmother Kate and her sisters Minnie and Sophie. There were plenty of other siblings, but I"m afraid I don't know much about them. I do have family in Southend but don't remember how they are all linked.

Can you tell me if this thread is still active? I believe I am related to you through Barnet Kosky who was my mother Trudie's grandfather.

Thank you,
Karen

thankyou victoria, can i ask how you know they relate to those whom emigrated to usa 1958/59?

The address you have found joseph was discharged to is the address of Barnett and yetta Koss in 1930 on their 50th wedding anniversary.

thanks for all your searching ... over the years we have found number of birth records for barnett kosky in the uk but our barnett was definetly born in poland/austria.
I'm really thinking on the joseph ww1 record, as Rosa Woollard who Joseph married in 1930 came from Felixstowe/Harwich area of essex, but if it is our jospeh, again we didnt know he served!
My brain is working over time at the moment!!!

Thanks for all your replies.
The message found in a google search was mine, a few yrs ago mind you when we didnt know as much as we know now.
I too had been given their deaths records and that they are indeed buried in a jewish cemetry in East Ham. My Gt grandfather was born Joseph Kosky in the spitafields/whitechapel area of london in 1897, his birth certificate states his parent s as Barnett Kosky and Yetta Kosky formerll known as Klineman. Joseph later went by his middle name of Sidney until he died in 1959.
Now, from what know, as in the message found, we believe their was a brother called Jack who was born around 1905, and they moved between the mile end and Dalston areas of London, where Barnett had a cabinet makers business called Barnett Kosky & co, which started bankruptcy proceedings in 1912.
They have been found on the 1911 census in the Kinsgland area of london with Joseph who was then 14 and a number of other children, Kate, Alec, Minnie and Sophie, who we never knew existed until then. And we had been lead to believe that Joseph was orphaned when he was around 9, but showed up on the census with them in 1911 when he was 14. After then we lost rack of them. Our most recent finding has been a number of postings in The Jewish Croncile archives, placing them in southend, we cannot read the whole articles as we dont have a subscription and it is very expensive to do so. But we can see that these articles refer to Barnett and Yetta as Koss, we know it is them as one of the articles is a 50th wedding anniversary post stating Yetta's maiden name as Klineman, we didnt know they had gone to southend or changed their name as my gt grandad Joseph Kosky very rarely spoke to my nan about them, it was as if they didnt exist. The article says they married 25 august 1886 in Zaviatch, Poland. We also on a random search found that their is a book in a university collection in USA bearing Barnetts writing inside saying 'B.Koss - Southend', we wondered how it had got over there, then last night i found a post on a website from a Derek koss looking for information of the Koss family who moved from Southend - Los Angeles in 1959 .... but the post is unfortunately 10 years old!!!
Any help anyone can give is appreciated, after yr of not knowing, we may now be getting somewhere!! Many thanks, Kerry
