Hi I am trying to find out about John Johnson, I believe he was born in 1874 and served in WW2. He was Married to Alice May Lammas and had i think 8 children.

I don't see any obvious WW1 record for him - but huge numbers of WW1 records were destroyed.

Wow you are really awesome, I've been looking and think he was in WW2 he would have been about 40ish.

Looking at Argyll Grans reply I had Henry Stanley and from what you have found his first name was John, I have him having died on 1/11/1913. The rest are all the same as I have, but I also have a Reginald who I think was born in 1915 and he died in 1919. aged approximately 4 yrs.
I did not have Ann Lamas I am assuming she is Alice Mays mother. I have Alice Mays father as William Joseph Lamas.

John Johnson I don't have much information about him other than he was awarded the Defence medal and his father was Robert Johnson, he may have had siblings Hettie, Sussie, Charles and Harry. That is it.
If you wonderful people can help with any information I would really appreciate it.

ErikaH
I did not know that two of the girls were invalids, surprising information.

Thank you to you all for being so kind and helpful

Have you found any record of his being awarded the Defence Medal ?
Or is it just a family belief?

The Defence Medal was only introduced during WW2, but he can't possibly have been a soldier in WW2 - he would have been approx 65.

ADDED

Ah, but I see that members of the Home Guard could be awarded the Defence Medal, so maybe he did have it.

OP stated "I've been looking and think he was in WW2 he would have been about 40ish"

Is it possible John Henry S Johnson is the WW2 soldier, as opposed to his father??

IF

Looking at the 1926 burial register entry on Ancestry (posted by Jink20 at 10:11) -

that John Johnson died in Hanwell Mental Hospital, Southall.

No other info given.

Ancestry's algorithm suggests he's the right man - but that can't necessarily be trusted.
