ArgyllGran Report 20 Jun 2024 08:52

WW2 service records are generally not online, and I don't see anything military relating to him, at least not on Ancestry.

No sign of his birth, marriage, or death in Scotland.

Is this his birth in England?

Births Dec 1918 (>99%)
Ord Arthur W (mmn Brown) Hackney 1b 494

Probably the marriage of the 1918 man:

Marriages Jun 1940 (>99%)
Crux Gladys P Ord Hackney 1b 1071
Ord Arthur W Crux Hackney 1b 1071

Gladys at a different house in the same road ? - on the list of non-service people:

In 1939, Gladys was with her parents, William and Phoebe Cruse in Hackney - DOB 10/10/1920.

I don't see Arthur on the 1939 Register - at least not with his full name - which may mean he was in the forces.

Do you know if he actually was in the forces?

Do you know his exact DOB? Is the man born 1918 the right one?

[EDIT:
Yes, I see from births of children, that's the right person.]

Why do you think there's a Scottish connection?

As far as I can see, his parents married in Hackney in 1912; his father Charles was born in Hackney in 1887, and his mother Edith Ella Brown was born in Poplar RD in 1887.

If this is your Arthur you can read his recommendation in the National Archives. You will have to register and sign in. The download is FREE
