It would appear Arthur Ord was awarded the MM for his actions in Dunkirk 1940. Service numbers are different, same name, rank, Corps and date of announcement in the Gazette

If this is your Arthur you can read his recommendation in the National Archives. You will have to register and sign in. The download is FREE

Why do you think there's a Scottish connection?

As far as I can see, his parents married in Hackney in 1912; his father Charles was born in Hackney in 1887, and his mother Edith Ella Brown was born in Poplar RD in 1887.

In 1939, Gladys was with her parents, William and Phoebe Cruse in Hackney - DOB 10/10/1920.

I don't see Arthur on the 1939 Register - at least not with his full name - which may mean he was in the forces.

Do you know if he actually was in the forces?

Do you know his exact DOB? Is the man born 1918 the right one?

WW2 service records are generally not online, and I don't see anything military relating to him, at least not on Ancestry.

No sign of his birth, marriage, or death in Scotland.
