Hi,

I'm trying to locate any of the Hiscock brothers - John, Alan (whom I believe are twins born in 1944) and Terry (born in 1947).

Their late mother, Joan May Hiscock (maiden name Wrightson), was born 1921 and died in 1997. Joan lived in Darlington, Yorkshire (or at least I believe she's buried here) and her sons may still be residing here too.

I have some very important information about a relative (or rather relatives) which John, Alan and Terry may not know about, and would really appreciate any information on the family.

I'm also looking for anyone who knows of a (Sgt) Benjamin Michael Bennett, born between 1916-1920 and died in 1940. He was a Sgt in the RAF (58 Squadron), and sadly died whilst on a flight mission. His plane crashed in Brussels where he is buried along with four of his colleagues. His family, I believe, lived in Knowle, Bristol. Benjamin had a daughter, who was born after he died and was subsequently adopted by another family. We're not sure if his family were ever told that he was a father to be, so here we are, trying to connect the dots and make connections with some, seemingly, lost relatives.

Please, if any of this rings true with anyone, or anyone could point me in the right direction it would be greatly, greatly appreciated.

Regards
Jola

Not seeing a birth for Benjamin so it's hard to track down his parents.

Wondering if Benjamin is the adopted son of Mr. Bennett. Perhaps the poster needs to checkout the ER for that area of Bristol prior to 1940.

Gosh, your responses have been overwhelming - thank you so very much.

I've now got a couple of really good leads to follow up which I'll get on to right away...fingers crossed! x

Can't see a birth for Benjamin either.
You say he had a child, but did he marry?

Jola____

Jola____ Report 4 Mar 2014 22:42

Hi Catherine,

No he wasn't married as far as we're aware. His daughter was born out of wedlock, hence she was given up for adoption. We think that he died before he was able to tell his family.

We may have to consider the possibility that he too was adopted by his parents...

Thanks

Thanks Shirley, we've seen this record we're just struggling to get behind it i.e. find his birth certificate to open more doors. We'll look down the adoption route, seems like the most plausible option now considering...

Many thanks

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 5 Mar 2014 18:31

but if he was 20 when he died he would have been born 1919/1920 ?

You say you have seen the RAF record but surely that will give his next of kin and his home address when he signed up .

If he was adopted you wont find a birth cert .

Official adoption anyway didnt start till 1927 So maybe his was a later adoption .

You wont be able to access any adoption records though as these are closed once the adoptee dies . Before then they are only only to the adopted person.

Jola____ Report 5 Mar 2014 19:34

Hi Shirley,

Regards his age - the military record states "circa 20", which, coupled with the fact that we can't find a birth cert for 1919/1920 suggested that we had to be flexible with his birth year.

I thought this was the RAF record to be honest, but if there's a more detailed record which would include his next of kin etc, then that's certainly something for me to look into...

It would be a real shame if I couldn't access his (possibly) adoption details, but I'll give it a go anyway, just to put my mind at ease.

Thanks for all your help Shirley...you don't know how helpful you've been to such a novice like me. I just hope I can offer my mother (his daughter) some information on her father.

Best wishes,
Jo
