Recently received my fathers adoption records, and traced his real mother.
Although all deceased I have found a living cousin. His mother had him adopted at the age of 3 and a half in 1941. She later went on and remarried and had more children.
My questions are he had two sisters born in 1932 and 1933, he was born in 1937, found birth records but now assumed they were adopted or in a childrens home and name changes are making it impossible for me to locate them/family of theirs.
Moureen J collins & Thelma J Collins born to Elsie Maud Collins and Thomas Collins registered in Sratford Upon Avon.
Any suggesstions where I can go from here to see what happend to his sisters??
His birth was registered in 1937 by his birth mother Barrie Edward Sharp Collins, not sure if they share all the same father??
Regards
Karen.

You could add yourself to the national adoption contact register.

It the sisters were adopted, and knew that they were, they may have added themselves..............assuming they have any wish to trace their birth relatives

Your post is rather confusing...............

I'm guessing that Barrie was your father's name........not his mother's,

For clarity................

Marriages Dec 1930 (>99%)
Collins Thomas Lees Stratford 6d 1850
Lees Elsie M Collins Stratford 6d 1850

Was Thomas named as the father on your father's birth cert?

The marriage you have found is definately, that of my Grand mothers Elsie M Collins this I know, my father's birth records do not carry a fathers name. as it has only his adoption papers.
However his birth was registered by Elsie M Lees and he was registered as Barrie Edward Sharp Collins in 1937.
The Sisters were born in 1931 and 1933.

Your father was probably not the son of Mr Collins but as his mother was possibly still married to him the birth would have been registered in his name.....maybe the Sharp in his name was his biological father?

As Thomas was the father of the girls..........we presume.......perhaps he brought them up after his wife 'played away from home'

Haven't you bought a copy of the birth cert?

There was also an older brother...........

Births Mar 1931 (>99%)
Collins Donald T Lees Stratford 6d 1303

Deaths Mar 1931 (>99%)
Collins Donald T 0 Stratford 6d 1184

Have you tried looking for info about the sisters yourself?

Thanks all I have, I know about Donald too however cannot find anything more on Moureen and Thelma. Thought also about Sharp being my fathers dad's name too.
I am not sure how to find Moureen and Thelma as there surnames names probably did change , could not find any marriages.

Karen.

Why do you think they were adopted? there are a few Thelma J Collins marriages but not that many births

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 18 Feb 2014 17:21

Moureen is almost certainly a mistranscription of Maureen

There are numerous possible marriages for their names in the right time-frame and geographical location

Karen

Karen Report 18 Feb 2014 17:31

I am struggling to find the marriages in the right locations, i.e. Warwickshire.
are you seeing something I am not?
I contacted one Thelma Collins in Birmingham but she was Jamaican decent.

Did you contact the one married to a Mr Loague?

Karen

Karen Report 18 Feb 2014 18:09

yes and she was Jamaican decent.

There is a marriage in 1953 which could be her but a son born in 1954 registered in two names.....and not seeing him after his birth...and the husband looks to have remarried in 1963?

Don't expect one straight away from any of them.... some of the accounts are quite old and they may have changed their email address since...but fingers crossed one will answer...at least two look to be from the same family

ok great thanks.
Do you use any other ways to locate persons apart from them being listed in family trees?
