I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO FIND MY HALF BROTHER FOR OVER A YEAR HIS NAME WAS ALAN HARTSHORN BORN IN WARWICKSHIRE ON 30TH JUNE 1945

Hi Denis

Have you confirmed he was officially adopted? - it's just the birth index is usually amended with /s and his is not. A copy of his full birth certificate would be marked as adopted if it was an official adoption.

The S suffix only appears from the early 60s.

Not all adoptees are aware of the fact.

Not all adoptees wish to trace birth family

How do you know he was adopted? What is the source of your info?

Make sure you have your mother's name in your tree. If he starts searching, her name is the first thing he will try. I don't see it on this site.

Edit: I see you have her listed with a different spelling to her birth, marriage and death.

Sorry, Rose is correct the /s doesn't appear on earlier records. Thanks for pointing this out Rose - I didn't realise until I checked a couple of adoptions!
