Your not aloud to put english on a form anymore, I got fined for it. You are now British. Along with 32 other different coutries that are seeking asylum.

robert i just had to fill in a police check form at work and put english as my nationality,like you do,and got told to change it.apparently they said that english isnt a nationality.!! well,i aint scottish ,irish ,welsh or asian ,so i must be ENGLISH

Robert - What a cheek - how much did they do you for ? Good job it's not a census year because I took great delight in crossing out British and writing in English on the last one. What are we coming to - when our fellow citizens can be Welsh, Irish or Scots but we can't be English!! Sue.

I think I read in the Daily Mail last week that in the next census we WILL have the option to put English in the nationality box! Apparently so many of us did just that last time, that they have decided to change the form in future! Power to the People! Dierdre X

Born and bred in Suffolk. Going back to at least 1800 ancestors lived in Norfolk, Suffolk and Northhamptonshire. I've always considered myself English. I suppose I could say East Anglian. Rosemary.

Sorry to correct some of you here, but we Welsh do not have a Welsh box to tick on forms. On the last census form there was no Welsh box, so I ticked other instead. As you say, we all should have the right to tick, Welsh, Scottish, Irish or English, not many people consider themselves British these days. But we here in Wales, don't have it any easier than you in England, not when we have to tick a box that marks us 'other'

George, Solihull used to be Warwickshire until the boundary changes and then became West Midlands but with a Birmingham post code. I always say near Birmingham. Jacky - from the bit of Solihull that used to be posh!

How about this then. My eldest daughter was born in Ireland, my husband was also born in Ireland. Her daughter was born in England and has never been to Ireland, but she has to have an Irish passport like her mother. All my other children were born in England and we all have English passports. I also put English on the census form and will continue so to describe myself whenever I am asked for my nationality. Kathleen

robert thats awful what form was it i normally cross out british and put english or tick in "other" box and then write english i had to fill in police check form (many times as they kept losing it !) and can't remember what i put in that as it was a while ago but on the census form i put english trouble is some people think i'm being racist but i'm definetely not i'm just proud to be English ! lou

Me too - I'm English. Rosemary, it is a bone of contention here in Northamptonshire that we are officially classed as 'the East Midlands'. We don't think we are! Most of us feel we have more affinity with East Anglia - but there you are - someone in their Ivory Tower looked at a map and classified us! (Having said that - some of us receive East Anglia TV and others get Central! I'm about 9 miles away from Wellingborough. Janet

Me too, I am English to the core and proud of it. All my known ancestors were English at least as far back as 1650, but I am convinced that there is a drop of Viking in me.

Funy you should say about vikings, my grandfather always said that about his family as they all had white blonde hair! plus he loved visiting scandinavia with the rifle club! corrina
