I was born in Sussex, moved around a bit, but lived in Fawley from 1967-72, Portsmouth 72-74, Abbotts Ann 84-86, Hythe 86-90, and have lived in Winchester since. I always knew one side of my family came from the Southampton area, but only since living here have I traced their ancestors back to Mottisfont (1733) and, ironically, Fawley (1720.)

Feel like a Hampshire gal now. I hail from Nottingham but have lived here for fortyeight years (had to use my fingers then). My ancesters come from Alverstoke to the east and Charlton Marshall to the west on my maternal side and from Portsmouth on my paternal side, so I suppose it was inevitable that I should move down to the South too. Hi there Jenny, isn't 'coronated' a lovely word!!! Norah in Hampshire

Born in Portchester. Married there and visit frequently.Still trying to 'put it on the map' for the rest of UK folk. Dad grew up in Fratton, Portsmouth and when he bought the bungalow in Portchester,(1936), his workmates asked why he wanted to go right out into the country. Wonder what they would think now.

Hi everyone I was born in Portsmouth, where I lived until I was 12, then moved to portchester when my mum remarried and lived there until I was 20, then moved back to Portsmouth for a couple of years, lived in Hayling Island for a few months then moved to my own place in Portchester, then moved to Fareham for 4 years, moved to Lincolnshire in 1999. Still there. Most of my family are still in Hampshire where most of my family history is based.

Did you know that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle who wrote Sherlock Holmes was born in Portsmouth near the Kings Theatre in Southsea. Also I am sure most people who know that area well will know that Charles Dickens was also born in Portsmouth. At least one of the singers from Tears for Fears, a band of the eighties was an 'ampshire ogg and the Eighties band Level 42 came from the Isle of Wight. And Sir Alec Guiness lived just over the border in West Sussex and Plonker Rodney of Only Fools and Horses comes From Bognor Regis or somewhere very close. The area seems to develop a lot of star talent. Rachel

I was born at the Winchester hospital but lived in Bishopstoke and then the Eastleigh/Chandlers Ford area before moving to Canada with my parents in 1966. Most of my family are still in that same area. I noticed Jenny talking about Benny Hill. He was my uncle's milkman when he lived in Millbrook. Teresa in Calgary, Canada
