Hello Alan, A small world indeed !! I do indeed have family in Nottingham that i could use some help with.I started researching my dads Scottish side first as i had more information to go on and have so far spent more money than i probably should have on Scotlands people [of which my husband is unaware] Unfortunately it's very addictive!! Not sure how I missed this thread but I am still around and I have visited every one of the places mentioned many times but never stayed in the Castle long. The lions never roared when I walked passed it must be spending too much time in the Palais.

My hubbie is a Nottingham nutter. Born St Anns nursing home and brought up in Woodthorpe, Arnold. In my neck of the woods we call it the Mop (same as Goose Fair), also use to have the runaway mop the following week. It was all to do with hiring your staff and if they didn't like who was employing them they "ran away" to try their luck the next week. Ros Unfortunately he has lost the accent!!
