Hi Jo, I'm fairly sure it was Pro-thrombin Gene Mutation and apparently it only (mainly) affects the female of the species hence the note to get my daughters checked! In fact, all my siblings had the test done including my brother who is probably most at risk as he has to fly on average 4-6 times a week for his work. He didn't have it but he does always wear stockings when he's travelling about. It's fairly scarry really as my family and friends are supposed to remember what it is I've got, and let medical staff know in the result of an emergency so that they can take the necessary precautions with me before operating etc. I often think I should have it tatooed somewhere on my person in case my family and friends aren't available for comment at the crucial moment! My mum had the check done and doesn't have it so I suppose it may have come through my Dad's line but sadly he died 4 years before they found I had it so we can't check to be sure. Hi Eleanor & Tony in south London, very interesting to me. was it anti throbin 3 deficiency? They think I got it from my Dad, my sister is ok but I have passed it to 2 of my children, 3rd is ok. Had to have heparin and warfrin with my last babe, strangely enough she is the one without it! Can't seem to find out much about it. Hope all will be ok with you, Jo

Must remember not to sit on the floor cross legged when on GC! Seriously though I had DVT in my leg after having the c- section to deliver 3rd child Josh. They errupted into Pulmonary Embolisms (clots in my lungs) not nice! After escaping from intensive care I was on Warfarin for a flaming long time - I'm alright now, but they ran a check to find out why I had DVT in the first place. I have something called Prothrombin Gene Mutation which was worth finding out as it means I have an inherited proclivity to clotting. My sister was expecting her second child when I found out and they ran a test on her just in case and found out she had it too. As a preventative measure they gave her heparin throughout her pregnancy to lessen the risk of her getting DVT. I've been told to get my daughters checked for it when they are of child bearing age too! I am now not allowed to fly (except short internal flights) without heparin injections and definitely have to wear those sexy stockings when travelling! Huuby Tony also currently has DVT after being knocked off his motorbike and breaking his leg! Nothing like keeping it in the family! LOL Eleanorxx

poor lad though, look what could have happend. We all should be carefull what we do, you never know.

I think the way that the boy sat at his pc was also a contribution to this conditon ,he appparently sat with his feet underneath him for hours at a time.I am up and down for files when doing research and never have time for more than an hour on here most days,

"MASTER" of the house?. Obviously not or he wouldn't be doing the housework. Unless he lives alone of course.I understand the word MASTER to be Head of household,Owner or One in control,Expert,Captain of a ship etc ... If he is a 'Master" who just sits around waiting for someone else to make him a cup of tea or a bite to eat surely he is in the high risk category too!

Hi! I went to England to see my mother when she was ill and 'Walked" all the way on the plane there and back and still had DVT on my return to Perth and was admitted to Sir Charles Gardner Hospital. It is nothing to joke about and I have to be very careful I don't sit too long at the computer. That is why I am never very long on the Message Boards. Best wishes to all from Sylvia

That is so bad! I had a brain haemorrhage, as i was getting " better" I had blood clots in my lungs, thought it was wind first! obviously needed treatment but they couldn't control the clotting factor. Had some tests for Anti thrombin Deficiency 3( means blood clots abnormally), I had it, think it came from my Dad and I have passed it to 2 of my kids. At least we know now and know we need to take precautions. But don't go any distance with out my stockings!

you really need to wear the stockings that go to the top of your thigh, not very sexy. I can't do any travelling without them! But best if you can walk, can't do much of that myself!

So you will be wearing your elasticated stockings in future Bill!! Perhaps we should while doing this.... may be buy shares now, you never know!

Oh Heather that's awfull. I had blood clots in my lungs, still here though but so painfull. I didn't have to loose anything,but found out quite a bit about my blood. I hope things are ok with your husband. I have a blood disorder and passed it on to 2 of my children, at least we know now and know what to look for. I hope you are both well and managing well

hi folks my husband had dvt but it was not sitting at comps all day he was doing his work on the building site and was complaining of a sore leg .went to the doctors with cold frozen leg they told him not to worry and come back if its not better he did go into hospital a few days later ,gave him grugs to help and they did this for 9 mths then after that they had to remove his leg very sad ending after treatment for 9 mths.

Hi Bob, do you think this could apply to our husbands that sit and lounge around most of the day watching TV and just zapping the remote control for exercise??? I think it could, so will ask him to make me some nice cups of tea whilst I'm busy reading up wot all you nice folk keep writing!!!

I have to walk up a hill to get to this computer as I don't have the internet, if I get any nasty blood clots I shall want to know why.

Heck, I have just spent all day zapping nasties on my computer after reading all the scarey stories on Tips and all the time I was creating nasties in myself. DVT does sound a bit like a computer virus! Better go and sit somewhere else for a bit - does that count?

Damn, I knew i should have kept those sexy white stockings they gave me in hospital in decmeber!!!!!!!
