Middle names are often a clue to ancestry. I have 2 middle names, the christian names of both my grandfathers. One of my grandfathers had the same naming pattern. My wife Jessica's middle name is the maiden name of her nan, in the same way that my nan's middle name was her nannans. What about the rest of you?

My middle name is the same as a bear who was an olympic mascot - should I be questioning who my real father is??

my mum's name and I don't like it !! She was the same with hers too ...

It's a great name, I will add it to the list! Jessica wants to call the baby Filey if we have a girl. I think I even prefer Mixture to Filey!

My son has my maiden name as one of his middle names, Chandler, and my daughter has my paternal grandmother's maiden name as one of her middle names - Coventry. Michele(Simone Caroline)

You have got to be kidding!! My mother wanted to name me after the Aunt that raised her and if it was not for my Dad my names would have been Wilhelmina Maria. She took the first two letters of both names and I landed up with Wilma as a second name. To make matters worse my given name is not any better. Think carefully before naming a child as they have to live with it. My two boys are Daniel and David. Not much imagination there but they are written exactly the same in English as in Portuguese just pronounced different. Good Luck Lindy :-)

Michele,,,if it is a boy, I can name him and I think it will be Richard (after my grandad and great grandad Ord) but I have toyed with RobRoy (after Jess' dad, Robert, and grandad, Roy) but Jess doesn't seem keen, so we may give that as a middle name. If it is a girl, Jess has the choice and she still likes Filey or EllieMay or Rhiannah (however you spell it). I like the latter. It's all good fun at the moment, so any suggestions would be great!

I like Rose for a girl. It is Jessica's middle name and her nans maiden name, but Jessica is not so keen. As far as boys go, it would have to begin with an R as it is sort of a tradition of the Ords in my line.

Mine is Jayne - apparantly named after Jayne Mansfield - my gran had a bad habit of pronouncing it JAY - NE god bless her!

my middle name is robina - i hated it up until i started researching my family tree. surprisingly i discovered 4 relatives, not including myself, with the same name - who are not related themselves - all coincidence. two married in - one was the mother-in-law of one of them and one was the niece of one of them (thanks to her husbands brother). i was named after the nice so i suppose i don't count - but its strange what you find ain't it my mum never thought it out properly tho, i ended up nicknamed Ribena by anyone who found it out lol lianne xxx

my Mum chose my names by sticking a pin in a book!!!! no family history there then. My three boys on the other hand all have ancestor names in theirs, luke charles allan ( charles after my grandad and allan is a family names thats always used) then nathan edwin allan ( edwin after a paternal grandad and allan as before, and last but not least benjamin dean allan (dean after his dad and allan as before) Huibby is called dean allan and his dad also has allan in his name too Shelli

I'm named Margaret Grace. Grace after my grandmother, Margaret after her sister who died aged 4 (I wasn't expected to live!). My brothers have the middle names of Nicholas, my fathers real surname, and Edward, the middle name of his stepfather.

My middle name is Paula after my Mum Pauline, she gave me a short name because she got fed up with writing her long name at school. My daughter's middle name is Elizabeth and so far I think I've got at least 50 in my tree , which I wasn't aware of when I named her so It's a bit of nice coincidence really.KIM

Mine was Karl after my German birth Grandfather, but when I was adopted it was dumped for Alfred, a "nice" King!!! Gerry

After a lot of thought, I think a child should be allowed to change his/her name legally after the first year of school. Whats in a name you say ?. I was lucky I was Bill Macdonald, but my brother was Ronald. was ok in those days I suppose. But there are so many thoughtless names parents give their children as a burden, and open to ridicule at school and also later. Their names can make or break them in their early years.

On the naming of your children I was told by a wise person, can you imagine a person queuing up for their pension with the name you are giving them when a tiny baby. At the time there was a rush on names like Kylie and jason for obvious reasons. Try it it works, if you can't imagine it ,then its probably a name worth avoiding!? KIM
