Has anyone got any thoughts on buying,or not,of an all in one printer/scanner/copier,as opposed to using seperates.

Hi Barry, Just going through the same thoughts myself. The pros - smaller footprint on your desk, cheaper than separates because you only need one "engine". only one driver to crash your PC (!!), don't need PC switched on to make copies. The cons - single point of failure cos if it blows up you can't print, scan or copy. I'm going to get one - HP is favourite at the moment. The 1110 (?) is about £65 - sounds a bargain, but I think there's a newer model out. Hope this helps, Rick.

Hi Barry I have had an all-in-one for a few months and I'm delighted with it. Lexmark 74/75. It certainly takes up less space. The only problem as far as I can see, like any equipment that incorporates more than one appliance, if one part of it does go wrong, then the whole thing has to go for repair, so denying you the use of the other parts. We bought a Canon printer/scanner/copier about six months ago. Generally happy with it and chose it mainly because Canon cartridges are only £5-£6 as opposed to the double figures for Lexmark and other makes. Sue

Would second Sue's point about cost of cartridges. Just had to buy a new printer this weekend. Previously had an Epson - 30odd quid to replace both cartridges which we thought was a lot - you can buy a cheap printer for 50 pounds!! Checked out HP cos hubby's first choice - Black and White TWENTY QUID - Colour - THIRTY QUID !!!!! We went with the Canon i475d currently on special at PC World 120 quid - cartridges b&w 6 quid, colour 13 quid - and its not too big and it prints nice and its got a port thingy for a digital camera if you need it. Already got a scanner, so no point getting an all-in-one (scanner is a Packard Bell - no probs at all with that). Anyway, as you can tell, I know nothing about it but hubby and his techy mates reckon Canon is good enough!! Maz. XX

I have an HP PSC950. Bought it a while ago 'cos my scanner was broke and we wanted a fax machine separately when we found out that you can't fax on broadband. It was dead easy to install (I remember the olden days when printers were a nightmare) and has worked without fault ever since. At these prices I expect that repairs would probably cost more than a replacement. I don't advise paying for extended warranty. It's a rip off. Bob

hi barry we bought just before xmas lexmark print trio p3150 it was 89.99 does excellent photos 17.00 for the crtriges tho but that is photo quality ink ,had epson before which was noisy in comparison and very slow. hope you find this info useful karen

wouldn't be without the hp (1200 i think it is ) all in one that we bought like maria mine was about £90. can copy without having to turn pc on Photo's come out ok and only one item to find space for ! Jan

I have a Lexmark x73 - now obsolete I think. I got it from QVC when it was the TSV. It was about £120 two years ago. I am crossing all my fingers and toes as I say this - have had no problems at all with it. It's very easy to use and even the colour photos are good. My son, who works in a photographic retailers, has a Epson CX 3200 which was about £100. He swears by Epson as it is the make they use at work. Before I had an all-in-one I had a HP deskjet which was a superb printer. The ink cartridges are all so expensive so I refill mine with a kit from QVC or take them to a local store which refills them at less than half the price of new. Sue
