Ok , so there a lot of ex teds out there. But who was a goth (or punk). 1982-1987 I could be found sporting a 7" mohican. dressed all in black (with ripped black fishnets!) and enough silver crosses to satisfy a nunnery! Anyone else want to admit to being a show off?? Steph ( now 36 and 'boring')

I was a goth too! From 1984 - 1986. I used to love going to Rock City in Nottingham (despite not being old enough), bought my black buckle boots from Shelleys and only ever went out if my hair was crimped and back-combed. Am now 35, but still got cool taste in music - well, I think it's cool!

I was a MOD who went out with a PUNK, got taken to see Bauhaus, Iggy pop, The Damned and the Sex Pistols and I was UNIQUE at the gigs LOL. I married the punk and we have a 12 yr old Goth who now likes the music I became accustomed to and that he loves. I too am in my 30's( nearly 40 ) and er um boring!! Interestingly enough when bauhaus did their Resurrection Tour the only BLACK thing I had was a M&S Mohair jumper LOL!! How sad is that?

thankyou Estelle & Deborah! Thought I must be the only 30 something (36 to be exact) who was 'different!!' I was poor student , so didn't go to many gigs, but did get to see the mighty Cult, play at the Fridge in Brixton, and the Cramps at the De Montfort at Leicester!!! Re: crimping and back-combing, I use to wash my hair only once a week, 'cause it would take an age to get all the knots out, and a can of hairspray to get the mohican back up!! It's a wonder I have any hair left! Steph x

Steph, see, you're not alone! I was still at school (6th form) when I was a goth but did get to see a few bands - mostly the Mission, the Cult and the Batfish Boys. Even now, listening to their stuff brings a nostalgic tear to my eye! I used to make my own skirts - I just sewed the black material into a tube shape and added the elastic to the waist. The tighter and longer the skirt the better! I started dyeing my hair when I was about 28 and still do it now. These days it is more to cover the grey bits!! I don't listen to goth stuff any more, more punky stuff , even though I am a housewife and Mum! My 3 year old loves Busted which is a step in the right direction!!!

oh Estelle, what memories, I use to make my own clothes too! I'd tye dye loads of old material and make skirts (long and tight) and tops. I use to go to 2nd hand shops and buy 60's curtain material and make that into tops!!! Still listen to the Cramps and b52's!! Have 1 six year old daughter who's into Red Hot Chili Peppers, so she's stepping in the right direction! Steph ;-)))

She sells Sanctuary - all time fav of The Cult alongside Zap City and a few more that i can't get out of my head right now LOL! Brings back memories of The dead keenedys too. Hubby used sugar water to hold up his for ever changing coloured Mohican. When I look back all my mates looked the same all dressed in BLACK. The eye make up on my best friend was just black kohl under and over the eye - used to take her ages to get the darn stuff off. I never took to the hours she would take in gelling back combing and spraying. I convinced myself that I was unique in not looking like them all - who was I kidding, my parents would never have allowed it LOL!! Now my daughter has just gone out with her dad in her 1000 zip pvc jacket, tartan trousers, black t shirt, one spider earing in one ear and a skull in the other, Black lipstick and eyes so black her blue eyes look stunning. Oh well life moves on and in circles girlies. Debi : )

Aww what a thread My husband loves The cult and saw them at Manchester Apollo I used to love Siouxsi and the Banshees the damned and the Jesus and Mary Chain Dont dress as Goth as I did at one time but still feel happy in black and loads of black eye liner and black nail varnish!! And could watch the Brandon Lee film The Crow over again for the soundtrack. I remember looking awe at the punks who use to hang round boots in Manchester Arndale. My kids love Good Charlotte and Im v proud.

Ok i'll be the first man to reply,i was a punk (still am) and used to go to lots of festivals. My kids all like punk/hardcore bands as well as the "normal" pop stuff. I used to make my own bondage trousers etc. My youngest can't wait to grow up so he can wear my leather jacket! And today i went to a record fair and picked up a "Peter and the Test tube babies" LP i've been after for years. And it's pretty strange to hear all my old favorites on playstation games and my lads asking if i have any of them. Steve.

Steph Report 21 Mar 2004 08:42

well done, Steve, first bloke to admit! What ever happened to all these great bands! Saying that, I did go and see Stiff little fingers, last year, still touring and with Bruce Foxton on guitar! Steph x

Hi All, I was a little bit late for the "real" Goth thing but in 1991 aged 18 I did have black hair, a lot of black eyeliner, long skirts with little mirrors on the bottom, and a cool line in baggy jumpers with assorted holes. For all the Cult, Bauhus, Pixies lovers etc.. I work at Beggars Banquet and we have an excellent back catalogue and online ordering system www.beggars(.)com Pixies are reforming, doing the V2 festival and touring in the summer. Beggars are also re-releasing back catalgue. Naomi

Hi Steph, Tour dates are a secret at the moment and even I don't know when they are. (unless I've missed something!) I know in the summer sometime, June/July. They are doing the V festival too. Naomi

Estelle Report 22 Mar 2004 18:05

The Pixies are reforming?! What fantastic news. I just love them. I also saw Stiff Little Fingers last year and thought they were fab. I was pregnant at the time but still got quite close - no stage diving for me though!!! Anyone here used to like Mega City Four? I got into them after the goth stuff. I saw them so many times I lost count. They were just fab! Aaah, I am getting all nostalgic!

Naomi in SW Report 22 Mar 2004 18:10

I checked with our mail-order section and they tell me there's no Pixies T-shirts. There might be later in the year I suppose. Naomi

Steph

Steph Report 22 Mar 2004 22:11

Sorry Estelle, Mega city four eluded me!! Still possibly the Englands biggest Cramps fan, though!! Saw them abouth 15 years ago, luckily, not pregnant, so able to crowd surf! Steph ;-))

Sorry Janet, Just realised you were after Cult t-shirt and I asked mail order about Pixies. Will check tomorrow but to be honest I doubt they'll have any hanging around now. Will check with the warehouse and see what I can find in there too. Naomi
