Changing the clocks twice a year is an expensive and disruptive nonsense. If the Scots want to start shool or work an hour earlier or later surely it would not be difficult. There is some evidence that the accident statistics were fiddled to make the case when the experiment was tried in 1968 -72. The big mistake? was that we stayed on BST. We should have stayed on GMT. Hi Shelli, It is changed at 1am so there isn't any confusion of the day it gets changed apparantly. lol

If you think youve got problems in UK, then consider Australia, we are already in 4 or five time Zones, (Even Im confused) We move our clocks on the same day as UK does, instead of being 11 hr difference it will be 9 hrs. you go forward we come back. Some of our states wont change, Some border towns have different times on each side of the road. And why do we need another hour of Sunshine in Australia? .

Karin, in that case I guess that you dont put your digi clock back by 1 hour, but put it FORWARD again, but by 23 hours?

This thread got me thinking and i seached the web for more info ( sad life i lead) and i discovered that the clocks actually change at 1am, i always thought it was 2am. why did i think that? Shelli Update.. apprently it has been both !!! learn something new everyday

I think my mother told me that during WW2 there was double BST. So 1 hour doesn't seem so bad now. Pat

I am glad that I don't have to many clocks to change at home, but some of you have loads, being collectors of clocks lol

I work in a sheltered housing scheme with elderly people and changing the clocks confuses some of them everytime! Maggy

I always think about which way the clocks go, is, TOWARDS SUMMER, forward in spring, backwards in winter..... Ps if you have a chiming clock, you should STOP it for an hour....in winter ...Bob

Re European time, THEY also put the clocks forward the same weekend. Re Scotland, they are after home rule, separation or whatever - let them have their own time zone! ;o)

As a matter of interest, the man who introduced daylight saving was a William Willett, who lived on a big estate near Chislehurst in Kent. A memorial to him can be found in woods near here where I live; Petts Wood (near Orpington, Kent). There is even a pub named in his honour; The Daylight Inn. Although we get an hour's less sleep, it does mean my children wake up later, for about a week!! Sadly, in October this has the opposite effect. LOL

Tricia Yes, they did try it in the 60s and it didn't work because they kept summer time through the winter rather than GMT through the summer. GMT is the natural time zone for this longitude: using summer time in the winter puts us on Continental time which is designed for Germany, Italy, Poland, etc. which are hundreds of miles east and therefore get an earlier sunrise. In my opinion the experiment was designed to fail.

Trish what about the clocks in the t.v. if you don't change them and set the video to tape something by time, it will record the wrong thing Tricia

I've only got one clock downstairs (which I rarely look at), plus the alarm clock upstairs and of course my watch, so I will be able to change these in no time at all!!

Our friend collects clocks, He has about 20 in all. I know that hubby will be busy changing them for him next week ! LOL ! ;-)) Elaine x
