No Debi, not so far. did you use the beeb address from on here? I should get it OK. The gist of my e mail was that when in Glos library I found a book called the History of Gloucester Constabulary 1839 - 1985. I ploughed all the way through it for William Monk of Westbury, no sign. I did find a photo of the retirement of Superintendent Monk Cirencester 1902, but with no first name. Probably not 'your' Monk though. Sorry, I thought when i found the book I was on to a good thing. But of course, I still have not got your e mail addy.

Ann in Glos, my William Monk was dead by then but he did become a super.His last posting was at Westbury-on-Tymm just before he retired and when that station was closed down. I found his death on a policeman site as it was mentioned in a Police newspaper or something like that. Sorry you were disappointed and thanks so much for looking.I will have the details as you never know, i might fit the one you found in somewhere lol:) Dawn its no problem and Yes Ann is between you and me if you catch my drift Debbi

Hi Ann, WILLIAM MONK in 1841 was in Twyning Gloucs as a police constable in 1871 was in Campden as a supt of police and married to Harriett Dawes and had children in 1881 was in Police station main road WESTBURY-ON-TRYM with Harriett and children William died in 1886 and then Harriett went and lived with Mary England who was her married daugher by 1891 census @ 20 victoria Road Westbury-on-Trym He joined on the 16th june 1848 and his records are in Gloucestershire Rural Constabulary index(Q/Y1/1) at the GRO in Gloucs.
