I am very new to this site and am still trying to find my way around it. I must say after reading the posts from Gerald:Who started this: and Margaret:What's their problem; It appears that they feel novices have no right to enter into what should be an informative and enjoyable area. I am astounded that in this day and age of acceptance and intergration there are still people that feel so incensed. Less experienced or less educated or people who have a different form of language or grammar than themelves have every right to try to find out about their heritage. I am aware that many people who put a lot of time and effort into their family historyand I fully respect that, but please show some respect for others. I do still want to find out about my family but have very limited time to do it, however I feel that negative posts will only deter people from wanting to participate.

Hello Teresa Welcome to gc. We are all a pretty good bunch really. Sometimes its nice to have a debate, or a moan about something that upsets us from time to time, If you read some of the other threads, they are quite funny & many have had me in stitches before now. I have laughed & cried along with some of the threads on here. Everyone is...er....normal on here & have...ooooh....arrrr... normal likes & dislikes. So dont be shy & join the madhouse !! LOL !! Kind regards Elaine :o))

Hi Teresa Please don't be put off by the minority. You will find that most people on here are some of the most friendly and helpful people you will ever meet. May I take this opportunity to say welcome to GC. Jeanette

Welcome Teresa. I too am quite normal (apart from being disabled). Don't take the moans too much to heart. I don't see the point in getting all het up about other people's gripes. Just respond to the nice people and ignore the rest, they are in the minority on this site. Good luck with your research and I hope you stick around and make lots of new friends and contacts. Mel.

Teresa In any group there will be people who have strong views about things and sometimes go over the top expressing them. Read the replies to the threads that you mention and you will get a better picture of the wide range of people there are on this site. There is probably an "expert" on just about anything you care to mention, even genealogy (and typesetting). So welcome to the house of Babel and good luck in your research. Bob

Teresa, I think if you read through Margarets thread, she was just a little upset taht people seemed to be ignoring her mails, which most people would be frustrated by, but we all now hopefully know that this is often down to a quirk of the GC email system. Not always though - I've responded to peoples emails, done lookups for them, and not even had a mail of acknowledgement back. Whilst this is rude, it won't put me off helping other people. As for Gerald, he's just rude, self important people like that should just be ignored. Paul

Hi teresa. Welcome to GC. Please don't be put off by some people messages - the majority of people on here are very laidback. Pop into the Chat board and have a giggle with everyone - I find it the best form of light relief when I'm having a rubbish day at work. And ask questions - LOTS of them - at some point everyone on here was just starting out and didn't know what to do. The whole point of these boards is that we share advice and information and point everyone in the right direction. And enjoy it.... genealogy is a hobby and therefore meant to be fun ;o) Zoe

Hi Teresa, Dont worry about those messages, everyone has a bad day! You need only look on the boards, especially the sucess stories and records board to see how helpful people are here, I often ask what i consider people here might think of as a dumb question, only to find there is always a answer from someone trying to help me so ask away :0)) Regards Sheila

Teresa - fear not! Welcome to the 'Home for the Confused and Bewildered' Take some time - about a day should do it, to trawl through the boards and you'll soon see what a great bunch of people use this site. Some are complete beginners - I was six months ago, I did'nt even know how to use a computor let alone research Family History. Some folk are very knowledgable and the majority are very helpful. Persevere, ask away but don't forget to say please and most importantly thankyou. Suex

Bob Report 25 Mar 2004 13:23

Hi Terasa, just ignore anything you do not like. Please do not be shy in asking any question, no matter how basic, we all had to start somewhere and learn as we went. I am sue that for every question asked there are a number of people whisheing they had asked the same thing but thought it would make thim look silly. Good luck Bob

Hi Teresa, welcome to GC. Please stay around a while longer because this site is brilliant. I joined a year ago, when I decided to start my family tree. I always say that the people on this site have taught me all that I know about genealogy, most of them have been so helpful. As for the rest of them, just ignore them, they are not worth the trouble! Teresa hi and welcome - stay around and join in the debates, laughter and tears - there is nothing nicer than the people here on the G C site - when I come home I can't wait to see what's going on (Nosey i guess) but I feel I am amongst friends.
