Well, you don,t really need any more advice with all the support you are getting from the big family, but go for it. I stopped 14 years ago but the damage was done. My breathing is fine now but the damage to the ticker friend? i,m facing a triple bypass in the next two months after which i,m sure i will be fine, but smoking? it,s not worth the expense ,or damage it causes. Hi Jim How did you get on at the No Smoking group today? I did find it helped me, but not everyone is helped by a group situation. Good luck Sue - non smoker for 11 months, 23 days and 14 and a half hours!

Jim's Brain Cells you have got to convince him that he doesn't want to, doesn't need to smoke!! That is what my brain cells are telling me!! I am on day 13 today, join the no smoking thread on the board it has been of great support to me and I am that busy typing messages to the board I am not smoking!!! I have gone cold turkey and it has been tough but I want to stop coughing, my children were frightened for me as was my mother and I made a promise to my eldest daughter I would quit and not start again!! Allan Carr is a good read, the mind is very powerful you have to take control of it. Good Luck - Janie xx

I went to Group today and set my stop date for this Saturday. Amongst other things they gave me a Savings Tin so I can save the money I would have spent on Fags. My first reward will be when I have Thirty Quid so I can buy the 1841 Census of Durham. Thanks for all your support. Jim (for once in agreement with the brain cells)

30th of March when I put up this message. Now it's the 12th of July. Another 4 months of losing the battle. I have been seeing Doc, and today, when he had my bloodtest results he gave me Zyban. I had already decided (again) that today was my Stop Day. Then when I read the enclosed leaflet I found that one of the pills I am on, if taken with Zyban, could cause seizures. Phone call to Doc. Stop taking the pills, wait until tomorrow to start on the Zyban. Reading on and wondering why the dose DOUBLES after the first 7 days I discovered that you start taking Zyban while still smoking. Guess who bought fags when he went shopping today? Thanks for all your support folks, I WILL BECOME A NON-SMOKER.............eventually.

Jim's Brain Cells My father-in-law was a very heavy smoker. He used to light another cigarette whilst he still had one smoking in the ashtray. He had several health scares, and one day he ended up in hospital, attached to a heart monitor. Because the monitor wasn't portable, he couldn't go to the corridor outside where smoking was allowed. So he didn't smoke, and when he came out of hospital, he didn't start again. He didn't have a single cigarette after that ever again. He did have lots of sweets to suck and put on a bit of weight, but weaned himself off the sugar and was OK. Sadly, he had damaged his heart and lungs a lot and it killed him, but giving up smoking enabled him to live long enough to see 3 grandsons born and begin to grow up. All 3 boys remember their "Parder" which would probably not have happened if he had carried on. Helen

Dear Brain Cells of Jim, I personally have never smoked (didn't dare to; I've been asthmatic most of my life), but hubby used to. He hasn't smoked now for 25+ years. ANYWAY, what I was coming to was what Naomi said. Bob read "The Easy Way To Give Up Smoking" by Allen Carr, and it is brilliant. Allen used to be a really heavy smoker, and the book contains lots of reverse psychology as I understand it. Bob's just told me that one of the things Allen says is "don't say you're going to give it up". Brain Cells, tell the Legs to go out walking to the shops, and the Eyes to look out for the book. When they find it, tell the Hands to buy it! Oh - wish your owner good luck! Glenys.
