Mine is Tommy Cooper, Morecambe and Wise. Couldn't stand Benny Hill. Gave me the creeps. There must be plenty of opinion out there?

Debbie Report 3 May 2004 14:49

Yep the same as you and again cant stand Benny Hill. He was a milk man from around my area and they have just name a road after him. I dont think there is a comedian out there today that can match up to any of the old ones. Mind you Lee Evan is quite funny. Debbie

Lynda Report 3 May 2004 14:49

Eileen I agree, could not stand Benny Hill either! I like Ronnie Barker, I think he's a clever man, but my all time favourite has to be Billy Connolly, he just creases me up each time I see him. Lynda

Benny Hill wasn't too my taste, Harry Hill and Tim Vine can be funny. I like Graham Norton's voice and occasionally watch him, but he often goes too far imho. Larry Grayson used to live half a mile down my road. Contemporary Comics seem to swear too much and be rude. TC, M & W, Arthur Askey and their ilk didn't do that.

Lynda. How could I forget Billy? Every time he is on telly I have to make frequent visits to the loo in case of accidents. Do you get my drift? Sometimes I make it by the skin of my teeth!

Lynda

Lynda Report 3 May 2004 14:57

Eileen, I get your drift!!! I always make sure I go before watching him. (;-))))))))) PS As there is nothing worth watching on Telly tonight, I may just get out one of his videos!!!

I like a lot of the modern ones, Harry Enfield, Lillie Savage Graham Norton etc but my all time favorite has to be Les Dawson playing the piano off key. Sheila p.s. I also couldnt stand Benny Hill

Tracey

Tracey Report 3 May 2004 15:16

Am i gonna be the first to say Chubby Brown!! I know his language and the things he says are really quite disgusting but i think it's the way he says things and his accent that has me in stiches!!! Also the way he dances. lol Tracey

Freddy Starr was great when he started but I think he has lost his sparkle. Sorry, couldn't stand Bob Monkhouse.

John Report 3 May 2004 18:24

I'm with u kathy, Bob Monkhouse was such a sparkling wit,he could tell a joke without all the swearing we have today, just a bit of good old fashioned smutty innuendo!!!!

John

John Report 3 May 2004 18:27

Norman Wisdom and Mrs Merton, aka Caroline Aherne, too.

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 3 May 2004 18:49

Hi, I'm with you, Becca. Eddie Izzard is the greatest. I also love Paul Merton, Billy Connelly, Ben Elton and Peter Kaye. I hate sexist humour - "take my wife stuff" just isn't funny. Observational comedy is what rocks my boat. Gwynne
