Well said Karen. When us Brits go abroad we are expected to abide by other countries laws, rules and religions. Surely this should happen when foreigners come to our country. Unfortunately, as I have said on the 'secret vote' thread, I'm in a postal voting area so won't be voting this time for the first time ever. Jeanette

I was reading the other day that somewhere (in Liverpool Ithink), that some workmen were told to remove their England flags because 'they might offend Muslims'. To that I say that if these people are offended the remedy is in their own hands.

it sounds to me as though the loony labour party is rearing it,s silly head again. Most of these immigrants are as daft about football as we are and it upsets most of them to hear these comments because they are not offended ,any more than we should be if they wish to fly their countries flags on their cars when their teams or countries are playing. Most of the time it,s the authorities politically correct attitudes and actions that are doing the damage ,and not the people themselves.

I believe taxi drivers in Lincoln face losing their licence if they "fly the flag".

I agree with those sentiments but it's a sad state of affairs when a patriotic bit of fun is deemed to be unacceptable.

i cannot say i know enough about the bnp. but i was told that you are not allowed to fly the union jack anymore, i have a friend in the dhss and he told me that these people get free rent/clothes/house contents/priority on housing list/mobile phones/and now cars as it does not seem fare for them to travel on public transport because they dont speak english.at this moment in time they want rid of pigglet in winnie pooh because it upsets them, ie,a pig is a dirty animal. maybe this is a little bit of what we are seeing that upsets us. ch4 was stopped putting out a program about 10/11 year old being made into prostitution by the asians in bradford yorkshire. they threatend to riot if it went on air, the tax payer foots the bill i was also told! i leave with a open mind.

michael i am abit torn by there policies.i agree with some thegoverment are putting others first and not dealing with the countrys issues.and i agree with the asylum issue we just cannot keep taking people in who expect everything to be handed to them on a plate.they say it's a free n.h.s service and it is free to all but it isn't to us we pay through our national insurance.i am a little bit worried that they are a mild version of combat 18 and the people who are running for goverment if they get in to power will have some very damning policies.i had a leaflet through the door today from the independance party who's views are similar but to handle it in an appropriate way.they say no to the euro,no to joining europe ,a kerb on the e.u asylum laws e.t.c a fairer britain.robert kilroy-silk is one of the people running for parliment who believes these are the policies that should be undertaken.my vote is swaying more to them than the b.n.p.

Lisa Report 1 Jun 2004 16:47

crista this is the way that people are thinking now because like people have said in this thread they can't even fly the national flag anywhere now of fear of offending other ethnic minorities.so if i said to your countrymen and ladies remove your flags from your houses which i know they do in america what would you say?this is our country and we should be able to freely fly the flag when we want and where we want and if.i get abit fed up with the brits being classed as racists just for doing that when every other country does it.it makes my blood boil.

Lisa Report 1 Jun 2004 16:57

kathryn i still think it's the goverment that has stirred all this racial tension between different people and their religions.i believe that it is not the people of this country who are offended of the flag it's the goverment who think that they would be.i don't class flying the british flag as offensive to others.every country has got one and does the same thing.

Am I right in thinking the BNP is against any foreign people in this country? ( please correct me If Im wrong) if so, I wont be voting for them. I think they stir up racial hatred. Yes I'm fed up with all the Illegal Immigrants in this country. ( also feel sorry for those who really do have faced horrors in their own countries) But I have friends from all cultures, and explained as before, most of them who bother about it, dont care if we fly our flag. They dont feel upset at all about it. Its the government who are peeing their pants, worrying that they will upset someone. Not the majority of foreign people. I will fly my flag, with pride. But I refuse to vote for those people who are obsessed with their own race. Or anyone of any other cultures who do the same. Elaine x

Well folks excuse my ignorance but I didn't feel as though I knew enough about them to comment before, so I went to their website and read up on them. Scary to say the least. They do not beleive in inter racial relationships, homosexuality is unhealthy and should not be 'normalised'. They talk of a woman's right to work yet they will "close down the profit driven, child killing industry" that is abortion. What about a woman's rights there!!! Their policies smacked of Neo Naziism. What I do know is that when their chairman Nick Griffin visited Edinburgh, his 'body guards' were made up of Hibs Casuals (Neo Nazis) what does that tell you? God help Britain if they get in.

Devon Dweller

Devon Dweller Report 1 Jun 2004 19:34

And the reason that the Union Jack is offensive to some people is because the National Front (BNP)adopted it as their symbol in the 1970's!

You know, there are alternatives to voting for the BNP. Try writing to yor MP. Lisa, no one can stop you flying the flag. It is not illegal and the Town and Country Planning Act allows you to do so. These stories make the news because they are so ridiculous. It's just a few over zealous business owners or left wing councils who make these recommendations. In all the stories I've read, the decison against flying the flag was reversed anyway. Things were fine 2 years ago for the World Cup and Golden Jubilee. Crista
