"The name change was genuinely the product of research we did and it seemed to make sense to us." Who did they research this on then? Not me! Debbie

I personally don't have a problem with the Genes Connected site - it works well bearing in mind the scope of it. My problem when the last changes came in were that the Board names should reflect what should go on them. It seems to me that just as we have that sorted out, someone comes up with a name change for the site which does NOT reflect what it is about. It is surely about those connected, or who may be connected, by their genes. Reunited is misleading and irrelevant.

I've just registered for onefamilytree. It's a bit basic but seems to have a lot of potential. And best of all, in the several minutes I have been using the site and adding details no spyware has attempted to download to my pc. However, while logging into Genesconnected just long enough to post this message, 4 bits of spyware have tried to download. Hmm. Angela

I haven't even had a reply from Genesconnected yet to my email. But either their tekkies work at the speed of sound or we weren't the "first to know" about the name change. Things like that take time to put in place. I think we were the last to know - as we always are! Am already looking for alternatives and have stopped recommending this site. Angela

Sorry if I'm being thick, but OneGreatFamily is a pay site too isn't it? Also it's American and seems to have very few English ancestors on there. Am I on the wrong site? Sue

Hate to be a party pooper but... you know those fab new sites you're talking about ? You do realise taht if we all descended on them they too would gridn to a halt as they wouldn't be able to cope with the demand ? I for one enjoy the GC/GR experience (whats in a name for goodness sake), and being an IT system administrator myself, appreciate that things don't always run smoothly. Give the guys a break, I'm sure they'll iron out all the little foibles as time goes by...

Terri, I have got the same email from GC/GR. What a load of ********! (insert any expleative you care to) They have not listened as they have already changed the name (see logo at top left of page). I am not happy and I don't think anyone else will be either. It's just a ploy to bring in more money. Grrrrrrrrr! Viv. By the way, it took 2 whole minutes to add this message!!!!! GC/GR pull your fingers out and sort it.

I asked them that very question - Do they only want people who are looking for long lost LIVING relatives. Do they not want those of us doing Family History ? Who did they ask when the did their research ? Certainly NOT the people who are already PAYING FOR and using this site. Can you see the steam ? Sue

Well that is a stupid reply that I have ever heard. They are trying to attract new customers. but surely the new customers will be thinking it,s a site to catch up with old family and friends. That answer is not good enough. And I still havnt had a reply, obliously it will be the same as that one. Debbie

Terri No I havnt got an answer yet, I bet it doesnt explain much does it? I Just want them to explain what they think reunited means. Debbie

Debbie

Debbie Report 3 Jun 2004 13:09

Well I have just been on Colins new site, and I must say it looks very good. And I think GENES CONNECTED are going to lose a lot of customers through their own stupidity. They dont listen and they dont care. They dont even offer a explanation. Look at yesterday for instance, they put a message on saying that as most people call it reunited now they are going to change it. A few hours later they have changed it. GENES CONNECTED WHY WONT YOU LISTEN TO YOUR CUSTOMERS? AND WHY WONT YOU ANSWER?
