Vegetarians may wish to leave this thread now, lol! This one has always had me slightly curious; when I was growing up if you had a fry-up then black pudding came with the sausages, bacon, egg, etc... When I moved down south and lived with a bunch of students (all southerners) for 2 years, they look completely repulsed on the few occasions I made myself a fry-up with black pudding! Whenever I've stayed down south anywhere, I've never seen it on the menu if you have the full English breakfast. So, is it just a northern thing? Over to you....

No, my dad used to love it (he was from Bucks) so it was a regular thing to have a fry up with black pudding as a child. I havent had it in years though...never seem to see it in the shops down here. Sheila

Hi Andy, I am not a vegetarian but the few times that hubby has brought home a "Morcella" he has had to cook it himself. Correct me if I am wrong, (pigs blood stuffed in an intestine) the Portuguese version is with cooked rice inside as well. Yuuuk!! absolutely disgusting, just the smell sends me running a mile. Lindy diving behind the sofa :-))

We have it here, I am also a fan, you can't have a proper fry up without black pudding!! Supermarkets, markets and cafes all sell it and the best I have ever tasted was in a restaurant... Curried black pudding as a starter. It was delicious Allie

Am a midlander, and I love black pudding. With a fry up or with mash, baked beans and bacon. Yummmmmm!!

I don't often have 'the works' but if I do black pudding is a must! Stopped off at a Motorway Service station on an early morning journey once and saw that one of the 'set breakfasts' included black pudding - result!!! Ordered it and sat back in eager anticipation. When it came - NO BLACK PUDDING. They had forgotten to put it on (!). They did offer to cook me some but there wasn't time to wait. They obviously realised how annoyed I was because there was no charge for the breakfast!

Hi Folks...!!! I live in Spain and Morcilla (black pudding in Spanish) is orginally from the Northern part of Spain. It sounds the same as Lindy has discribed, the most popular is with rice but also can be made with onion, leeks & other vegatables. Lindy....have you tried it cooked in tomato sauce.....yummy, yummy. I must admit, it took me years to try it because the colouring put me off but I love it...having said that...I was never brave enough to try it years ago, when visiting my Nan (she was from South Shields)....!!! Are oatcakes like white pudding? I did have white pudding up in Scotland on one or two occasions and think that tasted of oatmeal.

growing up,in south wales,black pudding was part of our staple diet...now living in south london,it still is,as my local butcher comes from yorkshire,and he proudly displays his pudding lol......bryan.

My Mum likes Black Pudding, and she's from Devon!! I've never been brave enough to try it!!!!!

Isn't haggis more or less the same thing? In the Netherlands we also have a black sausage which is fried in thick slices with slices of apple and mashed potato.

I love black pudding and am originally from Manchester. There is a sandwich van that parks on the industrial estate where I work and my boss and I regularly have a sausage and black pudding bagette (has to have tomato ketchup on it too!!). Yummy, my mouth is watering just thinking about it. Mel

I also love Black Pudding - which by the way is nothing like Haggis at all. I first had it in Cornwall and they also had a white pudding aka Hogs Pudding. Never seen Hogs Pudding since I left Cornwall. My favourite breakfast in the Cornish days was all the usual with Black Pudding, Hogs Pudding and Ulster Fry. Those were the days Janet

Black pudding (and white pudding) is common in Ireland and Scotland. The Scots coat 'em in batter and deep fry 'em (well, they would wouldn't they?). "Boudin noir" is a French thing.

I think Black pudding is more a northern thing, its nto as popular down here, although yeah you can find it if you look. I love it, but don't have it often as the wife grimmaces at the mere mention of it, so we never buy it. am salivating at the thought of a black pudding a bacon sarnie with brown sauce mmmm

hi andy,must be a northern thing,we holiday in tenerife and visit a few English run and owned cafe/bars ,the people from north have blackpudding with their full english ,the ones from the south don't. Brenda
