Sue Report 20 Jul 2004 22:17

Crista Mine appear on people I've contacted in Sept & Oct 2003 and Jan 2004. These are regarding my paternal G Grandfather and maternal G Grandfather in my tree and my husband's paternal G Grandfather. (I have not contacted anyone about husband's maternal G Grandfather) None of my other contacts are affected. I have also e-mailed GC/GR but had no reply yet. Sue

Crista, All the people that I have contacted using the envelope next to a name shows JHT. It says 'using him as a link' but underneath it still says 'you have not linked. The only think that I can see that may have triggered it is that their were several new THORNTHWAITE names added by a member of GC/R. Sue:-)

I believe that some people sent messages to the site administrators this morning. This is a fee-paying site, which is why it is somewhat amazing that there has not yet been a single response, though I am sure there will be by the time I get home from work tomorrow. Joy

Crista, I agree with you. Only if I have contacted or been contacted to do with a name on a tree

Crista Report 20 Jul 2004 22:01

I'm sure there's no conspiracy going on here. I'm sure it's some kind of software error. Let's see if we can work out a pattern and help GC solve this. I looked at My Contacts and noticed that JHT appears when I have initiated the contact after finding a name of interest in their tree. His name does not appear when I've contacted people by clicking on their name in a thread or message. I seems to have happened between Feb 24 and June 24th. Anyone else see this pattern? Crista

I have just found 10 names added to my contacts, since yesterday! Have deleted them all - sorry if I have caused offence to anyone. Frances

It sems to me a serious "glitch" for it to be affecting so many people in their "Your Contacts". Joy

Hi I have one message that contains John Henry Thornthwaite but is was way back in May So now I have looked to see if this person is in any ones family tree. There are two entries for Jonh Henry Thornthwaite bt 1852 in Bassenthwaite Cumbria So I checked these entries and sent an e-mail to each of them One was to a Christopher Howarth and the other to a James Land . I'm not sure if either of these have anything to do with what has been happening but who knows Bren

Dont panic eveyone, this happened a while back and everyone thought it was a virus. It is only a glitch on the system and nothing to worry about. GC did explain about it then but I cant remember the reason.

Yes, this man's name has now joined my contacts - 17th March - an old contact. He is not doing me any harm. He can stay if he likes.

Janet Report 20 Jul 2004 18:03

I have just had a look at my contacts and found this name as a link with 7 names - some of which have been on my list for some time. The name was not there the last time I checked my contacts. It is not on all contacts. Has anyone found an explanation yet? Jacky :~

June Report 20 Jul 2004 17:44

Glad you did Helen. I saw a thread about this bloke and ignored it. Today I went to my contacts page - and there he was! So I've deleted him. Thanks.

Unknown Report 20 Jul 2004 16:23

no of course it didn't cause offence, I just thought it slightly overkill to have so many threads about the same subject... after all, it would seem this is probably just a glitch, something similar happened once before and GR sorted it fairly quickly

Helen1959 Report 20 Jul 2004 16:00

Hi Paul, I put this one on because some people don't always check their contacts( I know I never used to until recently) and some people don't always read every single topic on the General board. Sorry if I caused offence. Hope everything is ok with you and your family. Regards Helen Jackie, i sent it via abuse as that was the one I thought would probably get their attention and thinking about it it is a form of abuse.

Helen, there are already at least two threads on this subject, do we really need another one ?
