I've only used LOL in one (maybe two) thread/s ... and I really was laughing out loud. It was so funny! Joy

I'm sorry, I agree with Paul. Not only that but I don't like LOL (unless you genuinely ARE laughing out loud)

hi elaine, judging by the amount of e mails i get where people do use the smileys, i think it will be a landslide vote in favour of them. personally, apart from my t shirt, most of my e mails, my personall stationary, my bedroom curtains and tastefull matching bedding, i havnt much time for them. lol; am now trying to think of the silliest thing to have them on. sue. now theres a thread for you !

Yeah I like Smilies :) - use them all the time on my 'Messenger' site. And when I was a consultant selling cosmetics belonging to a Very large company beginning with 'V' owned by a one Mr Branson ;P mentioning no names :O........the consultants had similar message boards with a nice collection of colourful smilies.... :D

I'd love to see smilies and other emoticons. I think they're fab! Estelle

Yes, there are occasions when I have to :-) when adding a smiley would be easier and it would be good to have a range of emoticons. After all, if you don't like them, you don't have to use them, but ithey do help to convey the tone of what you are saying, which is quite difficult when you are just reading text. nell

Paul Report 17 Aug 2004 17:38

I know I'm going against the flow of opinion but I don't like them. Much as I don't like the abreviations used in text messages, it's dumbing down the use of the English language. I've seen other sites using them and it looks like a kids play centre. Paul

Hi Michelle, Thanks for reading ..! Maybe just the option to use the one or maybe two ? Then if folks didn't want to use them they wouldn't have to .. Thanks for considering the idea, much appreciated. Elaine :-)

Hi, I've said the same on another board, I'd rather not have them on message boards. They are great for MSN etc but they annoy me on message boards. Gwynne

Hi Dorothy, I mean just on here on the GC boards - all or any of them! ... as people have said, it may help to clarify any misunderstanding when folks read messages ... a smile goes a long way ! I just suggested it to Michelle as a way of brightening up the site ! Elaine :-)

Hi Joy, I trust they have acknowledged that it was your idea to have the photo option ? Not good if they haven't. Elaine :-) Hope your not disappearing all together ? I for one will miss you.

Joy Report 17 Aug 2004 13:07

Glad to have been of help. (I hadn't found it easy to find out how to do it!) Being able to have photographs was a suggestion of mine, so am pleased about that. I doubt I shall participate very much in future, for reasons I do not need to explain. I shall delete most contacts but you are welcome to contact me if you would like to stay in touch. Joy
