Our postie Dave is lovely. We hadn't been here long when we got a xmas card from him. I thought he was angling for a tip and just left a card out for him. But since then I have realised that he is a very good 'proper' postie and goes way beyond the call of duty. We live on the side of a hill in the woods and the post is always here sun or snow. He tucks parcels out of sight or knocks for a neighbour to sign and failing that he brings the parcel back when I'm home. He is cheerful, always says good morning and is a credit to the Royal Mail, so if any one from the RM is reading this, Dave the postie from Dorking is wonderful. Deborah

bryan had the same problem complained to royal mail when my mail was left hanging out of our letter box outside.they apoligised and sent me a twelve book of stamps.i didn't really want the stamps but just for my mail to be posted properlyxxxx

bryan SNAP!!! we get a different one every day. im always getting someone elses mail and never getting mine and like you,i tried telling him but he couldnt speak english either ..GRRRRR susie

Our normal postman is great, unfortunately they keep taking him off to fill in for others. That's when all the mistakes happen. Recently found out a postman that lives just round the corner to me has been done for taking things out of the letters. Lovely. We all know it goes on but when you sort of know the person it makes you feel sick. Diane

Karen is right. We used to have the best postal service in the world. Unfortunately The Postal Services Commission ... the Government department responsible for Royal Mail refused to let the Post Office increase stamp charges and at the same time insisted on savings being made for a bigger profit. Sorting Offices have had to change the way the Posties work. Giving them "walks" (rounds) which are far longer than previously and scrapping the second delivery. This is why your mail is delivered later than usual. If your address happens to be at the end of the posties walk, you won't get it until well into the afternoon. Because the number of walks were therefore reduced, some posties had their regular rounds taken from them and were put back onto "filling in" on rounds to cover for sickness or holidays. The consequence of all this, of course, is, that many long-standing postman have left and casual and temporary staff are being employed. This is basically why YOU the customers are receiving such an abysmal service. Our postman is great and I dread it when he has time off because it all goes pear-shaped. Did I tell you about the time when he was away for two weeks? I'd had no mail for about seven days and then the local crematorium rang me and asked if I would like to pop down and collect my mail which was piling up!! I suppose that being the local vicar the postie thought that I would be going to the crem 'some time' and could pick it up - they couldn't be bothered. (it's only at the bottom of the road!!)

I've no complaints with our postie. Mail is usually delivered between 7.30 and 8 every morning and its very rare to get other peoples letters.

Our postie is brilliant. Usually say good morning to him as I go and get the morning paper (about 7ish) and a couple of times he's stopped me to say that he has a parcel for me, and would I like to take it off him there and then or will I be back at the house before he gets there. He's always cheerful and he's mine!!!! Nobody else is going to get him - sorry :-))

We usually have the same postman, who is very thoughtful and manages a quick cheery word with many of the people on his round. When he noticed there were many cards to be delivered to one bungalow, where he hadn't seen the chap for a few days, he asked a neighbour then himself sent a condolence card to the widow. He picks up a 2nd bag of mail to deliver from near my house but we get ours from the bottom of that bag. Realising that my grandson would have gone to school on his birthday, our postman sorted his birthday cards to the top of the 2nd bag so that the young one had time to open them before school. Please don't tar them all with the same brush.

Well, WE have been really lucky with our postie, he even delivers incorrectly addressed mail to me if it's got my name on it, then it arrives here. I can have a laugh with our postie he's great fun, we even exchange rude jokes, texts and e-mails. THEN..... the P.O. decided that he shouldn't work a 6 day week anymore, so he has a rolling day off. Monday one week tues the next etc, wel i know exactly when he's off cos i encounter all the problems you lot mention. I end up with someone else mail i live at 38 ** ct !! RD ( not putting addy too many weirdos) but i get mail for 38 !! rd. Now i always used to take their mail to them but have just discovered that they don't do the same they put it back in box as not known at this address, so in future i shall be doing the same. Shelli

Well I must stick up for the posties here in our town - they are very good. The only slight moan I have is the different times mail is delivered at, sometimes 8am and sometimes lunchtime. Very rarely get something put through the wrong door, and when the postie put our post through next door's box by mistake, she rang our doorbell to tell us and was full of apologies. I'm a school secretary and our sorting office even deliver all the school post to my home address during the holidays (at my request, so that I don't have to open 6 weeks' worth when I get back!). I fully sympathise with all of you who have post problems, it must be so frustrating, but ours are pretty good and deserve a pat on the back. Mandy :)

Some can but most can't! Our next door neighbour often works away from home, sometimes for a month at a time. Guess where our post goes? We have recently changed electricity suppliers. We owed our old suppliers over £300 (their cock up not ours). Last week we got a letter from a debt collection agency threatening us with court action if the account wasn't paid within 7 days from date of letter (which was dated 12 days previously). I contacted British Gas (electricity!) and was told that the bill and the reminder had been sent, but had been ignored. Not to my house they hadn't! Neighbour came back from trip, and guess what...........there was the reminder for the bill. Still no original.....gone who knows where? I live in a residential road where all the houses have numbers. 2,4,6,8, etc on one side and 1,3,5, etc on the other. Not exactly rocket science to follow the numbers is it? So why does it happen? I report it every time to my local sorting office - same answer- we will look into it! We live about 3 miles from the sorting office and the postmen drive here in their van. My son has a postie friend who told him that they only have a certain amount of time to deliver their round. If time runs out, they take mail back to sorting office for another day! They also have to empty the three post boxes in our village, so if time is running short they empty the boxes instead of delivering the mail. And the Post Office is putting up the cost of stamps because they are making a loss!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sue

Hi, my brother is a postie and I know he works really hard getting up at 4.30 every day. The problem is not the usual hard working posties but the management who have reduced the number of posties, increased the workload for those left and then get in temporary or agency staff to fill any gaps who generally dont care if they deliver to the correct address and aren't given any training or have any knowledge of the area - as shown in the channel 4 documentary - they're just given the letters and then told to get on with it! Unfortunately these are the ones that give them all a bad name and the good ones like my bro are tarred with the same brush! sorry to but in but felt I had to defend by bro - he's a good bloke. Our postie seems to be delivering or not as the case maybe all over the country. Got a letter last week posted in June and delivered to wrong address twice as the folks there had made comment on the envelope !!!!! We even caught him and asked if we had post..answer Yes but I think I put it in next doors letter box cos me phone went off !!!!!........He had and we didn't get it till very late that night when neighbours came home , the post was some thing we had been eagerly awaiting. I got in touch with main post sorting office and complained..got told they are temps so give them a chance as the other posties left.Reason given twice the size rounds and expected to deliver in same time as the original round.(I asked our old postie when I saw him and that is the reason he gave for so many leaving) Jan

I used to get mail for different address's ,not even my house number or street,,,so i just waited for the postie next time round and gave it back to him,,Or i just stick it back in the post box when i get to work,,,Im not being paid to re-deliver mail because the postie too idle to read properly,

Oh! You lucky people! I have to drive 12 miles to the post office to pick up my mail. If I have a parcel I get a card in my box to say so and if the post office is closed I have to make another trip of 12 miles (each way) when the place is open. Saturday delivery - not a chance! and you have a gripe???? :)

well,last tuesday,i was told a cheque was posted to me at 9.40am,first class,and that i would get it wednesday,this was from a trusted sauce...didn't arrive...thursday,didn.t arrive..i was in trouble...had to pay some of this money to a guy that doesn't take prisoners...had to dash accross town,after work,sit outside his office for three hours,while he decided,whether to teach me a lesson. sat morning,ring at the doorbell...elderly lady...is this yours,she says...yes,it was my cheque,put through her door,on wednesday..my address is xx road, her address is xx avenue. bryan.

I do wonder how it is that the Saturday post is on the mat at 7.30 but weekdays never before 1.00. I swear ours saves up several days worth, Thursday seems to be a good day, always get loads then but nothing on the other days.

I think it's explainable though (and no offence to anyone here), but he' looks about 60, no wonder he struggles ;)
