Well today is the last day on my membership and have decided that i will not be renewing it. Its not a choice i made easily, but i feel the lack of safety over viewing of tree's ( i have just deleted mine as a result) and the way the threads, and management of the site is going that it's not for me anymore. I am very sad about it as i have met some fantastic people on here, and the help of so many of you has been amazing. I love the jokes ( thanks Lynda and Elaine) and the off-the-wall chats, but i feel that the time has come to say enough is enough. To everyone that has helped with either a smile or with my tree a great big THANKYOU. Good luck everyone with your genealogy hunting. Yvette

Thanks Melinda. I intend to carry on with my tree, but 'on the other side' , so will still be banging my head in frustration trying to track down those elusive rellies! Yvette

Hello Yvette, It's a shame that you feel that you do not want to renew your membership but I can understand your reasons and daresay that you will not be the only one giving it serious thought. Look on the bright side- the people on here are so willing and generous with their time and, as you have probably built up quite an address book of your own, there are very few that wouldn't still help out if you really slammed up against a brick wall. The one great thing that I have learnt while compiling my tree is that genealogists, amateur or otherwise, are genealogists first and site (any site) members second. This site was once a breath of fresh air, we all had a common purpose but it also gave us the chance to laugh, joke and let off steam. Sadly the monitoring, restrictions, and arbitrary decisions have made this a very different site to the one I joined. I hope that your tree continues to 'blossom' and wish you every success in your hunt for missing rellies! Magsx

Hi Yvette, I know what you mean, I have a while to run on my membership, but at the moment I am really asking myself if I want to renew. I agree the climate on the boards is awful at the moment, I like to join in the threads but at the moment I am frankly too scard to say anything- incase I fall foul of GR rules on the one hand, or receive a torrent of negative comments because my opinion may not agree with oters and they then take offence and start their own threads to gain support/sympathy. This was not happening when I originally joined. I hope that you find a site that you like and that helps you with your search. I am currently also searching for such a site. Sorry if I have hijacked your thread or offended anyone, but I had to get this off my chest!!!

Yvette: My renewal is next month. I thought about not renewing, but know that I would miss GC/GR so will go ahead and pay again. I used to read all but the success stories board. Now I find I usually only have time/want to read the tips and records boards. If you find that you miss GC/GR, please come back? I wish you the best with your searches. Lisa
