public safety is paramount.that should be their first priority.i know not all those people withmental problems are a danger.mental illness comes in all forms.depression which i have had comes under mental illness.i'm not saying that all people with mental illness are a danger to society but this problem has to be addressed because there are too many people being murdered by some people that are care in the comunityxxx(:

The vast majority of mentally ill people are not dangerous. There are cycles, people who are schizophrenic or manic depressive have good periods and bad. A lot can be medically controlled. Schizophrenics are usually diagnosed in the late teens/early twenties - and you want them kept in seclusion, like society's dirty secret, for 50 years? E Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway, Virginia Woolf and Vivien Leigh - all were manic depressive. John Nash won the Nobel Prize and was schizophrenic. Some of the most brilliant and creative people were seriously mentally ill.
