I'm sure we are all touched by music in one time or another. What music, or song, particularly upset, uplift or inspires you ? I have quite a few that bring a tear at the moment (I'm such a girl lol), in particular; No Distance Left to Run by Blur A Minor Incident by Badly Drawn Boy Hallelujah by Jeff Buckley (yes I know it's a cover) Gravity by Embrace The most inspiring one for me at the moment is Brand New Start by Paul Weller. It would have to be Phil Collins, Another day in Paradise. Was the last song my late husband saw on T.V. on the saturday, he died hours later, and on sunday it went to no1 in the charts. My daughter was with him, so this always upsets her too.

There's a classical tune called pearl fishers or something (I know what classical music I like but can't usually remember the names!) that makes me go all gooy (yes, even me!) and brings a lump to my throat, don't know why, just my tummy turns right over. Elvis singing American trilogy / crying in the chapel makes me feel all shiny inside if you know what I mean. Well, Elvis, my no 1 hero, makes me feel like that any time!! and all happy inside. Queen with Freddie Mercury singing we are the champions makes my heart soar to the sky. and that's just a few!! Joy

A song I thought was just beautiful was Fields of Gold sung by Eva Cassidy. It was then used for an advert on TV for Cancer Research and now just makes me well up. Wonderful World sung by Louis Armstrong - a great song. Jacky:-)

I've thought of a few more The boy with the thorn in his side by the Smiths Everybody Hurts by REM Some of Us by Starsailor is a great song, very good lyrics

JackyJ1593

JackyJ1593 Report 15 Sep 2004 15:25

Paul, I agree with the REM - Everybody Hurts. One that has always upset me ever since I was a child and my dad played it, was Nat King Cole - The little boy that Santa Claus forgot. I have never been able to bring myself to let my daughter hear it! Jacky the wimp. :-)

Jacky & Lynda The Nat King Cole version IS really moving but I always think of Caroline Ahearne singing it on the Mrs Merton Christmas show one year and that's sort of spoiled it for me:) Deb - the Enigma song is brilliant and I'd forgotten til you put that on but it really helped me through a really bad time 10 years ago - am gonna have to root it out now!
