That reminds me of my dad, Paul ,a few years ago he was using a pushbike to go to and from work ,on an airfield [fradley].anyway .he used to lock it to the stand with a padlock, came out one evening ,the wheel and padlock was still there but the rest had gone .He was gobsmacked too but that didn't help him having to pay for a new r.a.f.bike,somethings never change do they? Ramblin Rose Report 4 Oct 2004 14:50

I took my car into a Quick-Fit Garage in Dorchester to have two new front tyres fitted. When they had finished I drove to Salisbury.mixed roads, some rural and some double tracks where 70(Do I ever speed) Is normal travelling. As I was slowing down at the round-about on the approach to Salisbury where you can see the Spire over the Walls there was a hell of an ominous banging noise from the nearside of the car. I pulled over ,and as I did so the WHEEL FELL OFF ! tHE IDIOTS IN THE GARAGE HAD FORGOTTEN TO DO THE NUTS UP. I had really cheated death that day. ROSE

you're right although *cough* that was quite a while ago, I'm very overdue a service. Saying that I had some new tyres a while ago and I would have epected them to check the spare on that occasion too.

May be I am being girlie, but shouldn't they have checked it was there when you had your last service?? Or is that too simple ... !! Maz. XX

ahhh right, OK thats different - mine was a new one.. it's over 2 years old though so surely I would have realised by now ? who knows. It's well overdue a service at the moment, I'll have to get a new wheel at the same time... more money...

I dislike under-slung spares, even though our has one. The pressure never gets checked, it it easier to nick, and it's filthy when you come to need it - usually having to crawl round behing the car in the rain!

Paul it was 2nd hand - but still from a dealer. You will probably never know! Maz. XX

They put it underneath like that as a matter of practicality, it allows more bootspace I guess, especially in cars like the zafira which have clever seating possibilities. That comment about a new car being supplied without a spare wheel has made me think now - has it ever been there ? I've never had to use it so who knows ??

Peugeot's are underneath too - my f-i-law's was missing when he bought it - only found out cos he got a puncture next day!!! Also on Vauxhall Zafira (spelling??) they are underneath. My friend has has hers pinched while parked on her own drive!!!! Now she always parks rear-in at car parks and gets so close to the wall that no-one can get behind to nick the wheel! Maz. XX

I never knew that about a Picasso, bit of a daft place for them to put it surely? But of course that doesn't excuse the so-and-so who nicked it. They obviously knew where they are kept on that model. A grrrrrrr from me too. Mandy :)

Unknown Report 4 Oct 2004 11:08

no idea when it was taken, it could have been months ago ? I suspect though that it's recent - I've parked in "temporary" car parks near Old Trafford a few times, which sometimes consist of little more than an alleyway, so I wouldn't be surprised if that's whe they went...
