The 1st christmas after my husband died I took the family to a hotel so we were all together and I told all of my 8 children I would spend the next 8 christmas's with them each in turn. Soon it will be the turn of the grandchildren if I last that long LOL. We always had all the family together either christmas day or boxing day,you can imagin cooking for 36 people.

Other half is working days Christmas day & Boxing day so I will be up at 5.30 am both days with him , the kids are all grown up now . Christmas dinner will not be till 7pm when he gets home . But we will have a big dinner together on Christmas Eve and go see the family that day . But as everyone has said Christmas is better when there are youngsters about, The preperation for Christams can be more exciting than the day now we have no littlies at home Jan

im going to my cousins this year will be about 16 of us cant wait had xmas there last year was so good as when we lived in uk was only me and hubby and the kids didnt mix with his family at xmas always ended in arguements so this year we will have agreat time eating drinking and swimming in the pool and next im doing it cos my house will be finished and i will hopefully have my pool put in by then.and on xmas eve this year i will have my mum sleep over cos my dad is away at work this year every 2 years he is away so she will be alone so she will come to mine and wake up with the kids!!!!!!!!!

Looking forward to christmas this year as my oldest son is 3 so will understand what's going on this year. My youngest is 1 so will have no clue - but i'm sure will enjoy playing with all the wrapping paper and boxes! Will probably be just the four of us here for Christmas dinner, then possibly visit parents/inlaws or have them visit us. Haven't decided yet, but looking forward to it. I agree that it's so more magical/exciting with kids and lots of fun and noise! Joanne

Usually I find it to be a letdown, the anticipation always seems more exciting than the actual event. Looking back, I liked the Christmases when you could usually guarantee a reasonable sized family gathering. Then the elder generation died and being the lazy lot we all are, we now just stick to doing our own thing. I suppose it doesn't bother me really but I sometimes have a longing for those days when you actually liked having the closeness of a lot of people all around, even though you took it for granted at the time. This year, there will be just my immediate family as usual - hoping my brother makes it back. A South African friend of mine is coming over to stay in the UK for a couple of years so I'll be pleased if she can make it over. A.

Christmas isn't Christmas without children around, I'll agree with that

There's only me, hubby and one and a half daughters out of three for Xmas dinner. Eldest should be in her new house by then so will want to spend Xmas there, middle daughter will be working from 2 until 8.30, and the youngest should be here unless she's in hospital having a baby.

We always have people round. Otherwise I find it boring! So as usual we've got a daughter, her husband and his Mum & Grand daughter. Thankfully my husband does the cooking or we might starve! The more the merrier as far as I'm concerned. And this is from someone who doesn't like Christmas much! Jane

My hubbys working christmas day again so no doubt like last year he'll get me and the kids out of bed at 5am (yawn!!) before he goes to work so he can see the kids open their presents!! Usually we'll go my mum and dads in the morning over in Yorkshire and then the inlaws come round for tea or we go to them. Tracey

Looks like being just 3 of us this year and maybe next door neighbours. Son and his partner will be having their first christmas with just them and the children as for the last 4 years they have had one of her parents ill. Sadly they have both died so this will be a difficult time for them. We could go to my sister and her family (5 generations), a total of 11 but after a very enjoyable but very noisy weekend with them, I think we will opt for a quiet time. We tend to do more at New Year with anything from 10-40 for the evening with 10-20 staying over and for a big dinner next day. Jacky

Paul, sounds like a good idea to do something different xx We are only a small family, but we still make a big thing of it and have a great time!
