Hi Joanne, I had my tonsils out when I was 28 and I have to be honest and say that it is sore but only for a short time. When I woke up,I couldnt swallow very well but morphine is a wonder drug!I was only allowed home when I could actually swallow roughage and I chose Weetabix because you can soften it with milk.A plus to it is that you lose weight.Good Luck and once it is over and done with, you rarely get painful throats.

Joanne, had mine removed when 26years old, best thing to come out of it was that I had to go and buy new clothes I lost over a stone in weight!! Needless to say it did not last long but good at the time. Been as right as rain since. Good luck Kassidy

Joanne, my wife (32) is having her's out a week on Monday - the hospital called her yesterday about it. She has her pre-ops on Monday. I'm self-employed so can't afford to take time off, but I'll need to look after her and our 3 yr old son. Needs must!

My daughter had hers out ten years ago and gone are the days when they gave you Ice-cream they gave her crisps (ouch) but it was the end to all her problems. Good Luck and make the most of the rest and people spoiling you. Love Debs.

Joanne, My 18 year old daughter has hers out on 18th October and she's in a state as well but will be relieved to get rid of them. They look like golf balls in her throat. Had mine out at Barts in London in 1963 when I was 6. Had to stay a week and parents not allowed to stay and only visit for 2 hours a day. Mum had to travel into and across London to visit me. You will be fine, don't worry! Viv

Hi Joanne, I had my tonsils removed when I was 26 and was terrified prior to the operation due to all the horror stories people are so willing to tell you. I was put in the kids ward and they were all worse than me, I ate my toast and was allowed ice cream. It was absolutely fine I'd worried for nothing. I did still get sore throats ( still do) but never as horrendous as before. Now 17 years later my tonsils have grown back and if I continue to suffer from sore throats will have to get them removed again but am not worried about it. Hope everything goes okay for you, I'm sure it will. Siobhan

Had my tonsils out when I was 20... There was two of us both around 20. The nurse and doctor explained that the anesthetic and taste of blood (sorry)may make you sick, the other girl explained that is she was sick or saw any one being sick she would have a panic attack and stop herself breathing - great. While we were under they gave us a jab to stop us throwing up (I had to have it too) When I came round, my leg was so badley bruised and sore it hurt more than my throat. I had to have cornflakes / toast, it's to help remove the scabs that are forming!!! I got icecream after. It really is not bad I recovered very quickly, and no more bad throats. I very rarely get colds any more either. Good luck and don't worry, it really sounds far worse than it is.

Hi Joanne, My daughter had her tonsils out this year and she is 44 years of age. She was allowed home the same day, so you may not get your night's stay in hospital. My youngest daughter also had her tonsils out when she was in her early 40s - she is still ok. Good luck, don't worry. Every day after the operation you will feel the improvement. Sylvia xxx

you'll be ok, you can have a choice on what to eat, my friend asked for porridge, she wished she had'nt as she said it was thick and was soooooooo hard to get down, she wished she'd to had cornflakes, as she would have waited for them to go all soggy,LOL. oh,also she said you wake up with the taste of blood in your mouth. if you know what to expect when you go in they it wont be so bad. me i hate hospitals, had 3 operations and still the thought of me going in makes me panic. good luck hun, you'll be fine.

Joanne - It was probably the shock of getting a date to go into hospital that made you mis-read it lol,
