Glenys the Menace!

Glenys the Menace! Report 14 Oct 2004 21:32

When we first met our 2 children during the adoption introductions, they saw our dark maroon car (a big Nissan something-or-other) and said "Is this car called Sunburn?" and as we didn't have a name for her (note, Mandy!) we said "it is now!". A few weeks later we were lucky enough to be able to buy an additional car, a little white Ford Fiesta (my baby), which they called Snowdrop. We eventually had to send Sunburn to Car Heaven, and sell Snowdrop, which is when we bought our latest car. She's a Volvo 750(?) white estate, sleek and beautiful. When we were trying to think of a name for her my brother jokingly said "Well, she's Swedish and blonde, what about Agnetha?" So she's now named after the blonde singer from Abba. Glenys Agnetha's Mum

Yes my cars have had names to :- My first car YCD874 (A Morris minor 1000) was called MORRIE (Still my favourite car) Then I had TFC631K (Ford Escort 1300) called LAING (Ex John Laing Company car). I have to also confess to have owned a Skoda (JNK248N) which also had a name (Not printable here). Everything that could fall off a car , did. But in it's defence it started first time every time even in the winter. Then went back to Ford Escort 1300 (RWL825P) called "The Green Goddess" because her colour. Next came the Morris Marina (GPD175V) called - yes you guessed it - MARINA. The next batch of cars failed to get names, probably because we more involved and to busy chosing names for our newly born children. Just for the record during this period 1 owned :- C780SPF - Austin Montego - the only car I have ever bought from new - It was a real "PIG" as everything that could go wrong on a car went wrong. It was eventually confined to the scrap heap when I was involved in a motor way crash. F???DBO (Ford Sierra) the only time I have had a company car. J723ONM Vauxhall Cavalier K868XBW Vauxhall Cavalier Now back the naming game. P648TTL Rover 400 (Surprisingly called ROVER) I have also ran a 2nd car at one point in time which was acquired when a relative died - OOO376M (Renault TS) was called MIMI (French connection) My current car is a Black coloured black Monde Estate car called URWIN (There was a character in a series about undertakers on the TV called Uncle Urwin - you may remember it had Pete Postlethwaite in it). The family knicknamed our car URWIN because it looks like the type of car that would accompany a funeral cortege due to it beinglong and black. I must be a real saddo remembering all those number plates as well as the names.

David - PMSL!! Mine is called Vauxhall Corsa, or The Car lol...... Can remember all my registrations, but the only one that had any relevance was my 2nd car - brand new 'D' reg brought in 1986 - D286........... traded it in about 11 years ago (have had 4 cars since) and actually drove past it a couple of years back in my village - made me go all goose bumps lol..........

We have had Peugeot estates for the past 20ish years. The first one was a 504 estate known as Percy. Then we had another 504 family estate called Polly, which I wrote off on black ice :o(((. Then one called Penny, then we progressed to a black 505 family estate called Peter, then Doug and I had matching red 505s (how sad is that!) called Peregrine and Phoebe. I now have a 406 estate, but she doesn't have a name - poor thing. Perhaps I'll call her Pandora, as I'm always finding strange things inside her, especially after the grandchildren have been in her! LOL Sue

Ramblin Rose Report 14 Oct 2004 15:03

I have had ARO Arrow,a good name for it cos it really shifted. Then I had NEL, so she couldn't be anything else could she. My present car is Rosey Jazzy. I shall feel a right prat if I'm ever pulled over by the police as I can never remember any of my reg.No. in full. I have to say. Give us a clue. Actually that led me on to a rather unpleasant incident when I was forced into the path of another vehicle by a selfish motorist- The policeman attending said 'Whats your name Lov' and I just looked at him blankly. In shock I could not remember my name I had no idea who I was. Luckily I was on my way home from work and still had my name badge on so he said gently 'Shall we start with Rosemary'

Our cars have always had names - its how we distinguish them from each other. At the moment we have James (an old red Nissan estate) and Toby (a green Fiesta). Now some of you will guess where those names come from!!! Anne
