Cos their Irish, Dan!!! Yes, definitely the names vary and change from time to time. I must tell you one day (?!) about Margaret Nesbitt who we thought was McCusker. There again, Great-Granny was supposed to have come from Galway. Joy

I might do Joy! The O'shea's are my maternal family. Where all the money is according to my grandad. Cousins in America who married into rich famalies. A g. Aunt even goes out and stays with them all expenses paid! Mad thing about the irish side is that they don't seem to keep there names. My g. granmother was called Margaret but known as Sheila, there is a Mary Ann who is known as Pauline and Catherine known as Tina. Why I ask, Why?

You are welcome - it feels so good to be able to 'give something back' after having been given so much help from people. Dan - you might come across my great-grandmother Susan McCusker in your 'travels' - 1881 and 1891 b Ireland - 1901 b Dublin! Joy

Hi Daniel Have just sent you an e-mail that needs a reply please. Have only just come back on here after trying a few things to discover that everyone seems to be thinking on the Archibald theme like me. Cheers Chrissie

Do you know of any siblings of your gg grandfather Richard Oshea? Anyway, now that I know it is Dublin (crystal ball, that I have!), first of all, in order to save some money hopefully, if I were you, I would subscribe to the rootsweb Dublin mailing list and ask a few questions on it. It is free. ... and have a look at these. http://www.rootsweb(.)com/~irldublin http://www.iol.ie/~ajroche/ Joy

Then I reckon to be absolutely certain about it, you need to go on the long Irish detective trail to find the marriage!! Which county, please, was he born? Joy

Daniel

Daniel Report 16 Oct 2004 21:12

No Joy. Just the one birth cert were she is the mother.

Joy

Joy Report 16 Oct 2004 21:10

There is a thing on Ancestry that shows different ways that letters were formed. It was only over on the Tips board today and I never knew the facility existed! You click on census and then on the left hand side it says 'handwriting help', which appears in a pop up box. You can't print it, but you can save it as a picture then print it. I don't mind having a look Daniel if you think another pair of eyes might help. Good luck! Mandy :)

Daniel

Daniel Report 16 Oct 2004 21:09

Possibly. Just bad handwriting.

Daniel

Daniel Report 16 Oct 2004 21:06

Arch(e) has been mentioned by people. Intresting

Tracey

Tracey Report 16 Oct 2004 21:05

I was beginning to think it was arch something. Could be archibald.

Joy

Joy Report 16 Oct 2004 21:01

Yes, Catherine Oshea. The other surname could be Archibald. Which county did they come from? Joy

Daniel

Daniel Report 16 Oct 2004 20:41

I think the first name is Catherine. She married my gg grandfather Richard Oshea. What your seeing is from the birth cert. of my g grandfather in 1914.

Joy

Joy Report 16 Oct 2004 20:21

Good idea, Jenny, but trouble is, being Irish, it won't be on freebmd. Joy
