We've had lots of fun with Pictionary. It's a drawing game. Very good after a bottle of wine. Jo.

Even though our son is a teenager, we have a tradition of buying him a board game for Christmas which we can all join in with. Do not - DO NOT - buy Trotters Independent Trading (even if Fools & Horses is your fave programme) unless you fancy losing the will to live. It has got to be one of the most tedious games around, along with Risk. 10 months later and I still haven't worked out the point of the game. TV themed games go down well in our house, Family Fortunes (uh-uh), Millionaire (ahem), Countdown etc.

Gosh, when I have people round we are amused with wine and gossip! My son has a game called Play the Part, with cards. Each card has an activity which you have to mime for others to guess. There's 4 different activities on each card, colour-coded for difficulty. You can choose difficulty level, or roll the dice supplied to get a colour. Things like tossing a pancake/walking in space/using a mobile phone. Something that is always a hit with children, probably because it is unfamiliar to modern kids is Hunt the Thimble. If you have no thimble, improvise with other object. nell

Hum-bugs is brilliant!! You are only allowed to hum the song, no whistling, lala-ing or anything like that. I laughed until the tears were rolling down my face and we had to stop for a few minutes cos we weren't getting anywhere. Julie

Apples to Apples combines a bit of luck and a bit of mind games. Suitable for children but REALLY vicious for grown ups after a few! Annie

Who wants to be a millionaire junior edition is the pits. Bought it for my son last year. So complicated it's a joke. My daughter loves Monopoly and now has around 6 different sets. Her and the boyfriends family love something called Payday, although I've never played that one. Diane

Not sure if Payday is still going. I bought it for a few pence at a charity shop and it kept the kids enthralled a while ago. It's like a domestic version of monopoly, you get a salary and then various bills need paying, or you win some money or get a dividend. Good idea for educating the young about the financial realities, but my boys are convinced they will be able to drive Ferraris when they grow up!

A favourite card game of our family is Uno. The adult players tend to get very excited, especially after a few drinks. Oldest grandaughter has Uno Extreme where the cards are fired at you out of a machine! We also like Pictionary, Balderdash and Word for Word, which tests your knowledge of the English language, and Scattergories. We also have a game called Tell Me, where the answer to the question has to start with a certain letter. Another favourite is Mousie Mousie which is suitable from age 4ish. Must get up into the attic and find some more before Christmas! Sue

I used to love Frustration when I was a kid. Must admit tried to get one last year. Went to Argos tonight and they had Twister on the shelf. That used to be a great laugh, don't think I could manage it now though!! Diane
