A cousin has told me that a great uncle on her mother's side of the family was called Fairey. That's not THAT bad I hear you think, (yes I can hear you) but his surname was Gay. :-(

My tree has two Fanny Fiddlers (mother and daughter) and one Fanny Fidler, the first two in my dad's family and the third in my mum's. I kid you not.

I read in a magazine a while ago that a reader's friend went to a school reunion. She started talking to one of her old classmates about jobs they'd had over the years, and the classmate said she used to be a receptionist for a firm that made doorknobs. This was owned by a Mr R Bulgeing. She said it was all she could do to keep a straight face when answering the phone and saying "Bulgeing Knobs, can I help you?" As I say, I read it in a magazine! The firm I used to work for had a client called "Mycox Electric". When the receptionist answered the phone with the name of the firm one day, one of our articled clerks couldn't resist answering back "Oh really, so is mine".

Good firm names there - What about The Idle working mens club and the Halifax Automatic Screw Company!!

My Mums chum - Rhoda Dailey, and two people I was at school with, R.Sole and Gaye Pratt.. Does make you wonder what the parents were thinking of at the time...
