does anyone know how to & the intricacies of changing one's surname by deed poll? Since my father disowned me 7 yrs ago I've been toying with the notion to change my surname. As I'm 47 now and probably won't ever get married, I feel I may feel better in myself & move on if I changed it to one of my other ancestors names on my mothers side, but i don't know how to go about it. Any suggestions please?

At your age you can just star using a name that you have chosen, notify the relivent people ie Doctor, hospital, Socils security, etc...or if you wish make an appoint ment with a soliciter, and ask them to draw up the paper work, it doesn't cost a lot. Bev

thanks everyone for your help. have gone onto the web site ukdps and taken notes of what to do. It wasn't as expensive as I thought it would be. Will have to have a long chat with myself, for some strange reason I kinda feel nervous about it now!!! Oh grow up Dawn!! But it will be in my best interests to do this. THANKS
